Publisher's summary

In case you wonder if you have what it takes to be a consultant, without knowing you, I would say you may have it in you. But if you have doubt, then maybe it is time to do some self-evaluation and realization and see if you really have it in you. Listen on and I will tell you what you need to find within yourself to know if you can do this job or not.

I coauthored this book with Jim because I was motivated and inspired by him; he showed me that everyone has something in them that can help others. The very first day we met, he told me, "As long as you know a little more than the next guy, you are an expert on that topic." Later he told me it was Tim Ferris who said that originally. I never thought I had any skills to be a consultant, but he did convince me otherwise, took me under his wing and taught me everything I know, and here I am.

Before you listen to the book, have an open mind - do not doubt yourself in advance. Remember, the very first thing you need in this field is confidence, then you need some expertise on the subject. But confidence is what can make or break you.

Looking back at my own life, I never thought I could be a marketing consultant; I don't have the education nor do I have the skills for it. But he taught me it is not the education that makes you a great consultant. If that were the case, then every PhD in marketing would take our job. It is the mix of confidence, knowledge, and willingness to learn and adopt that makes someone a great and successful consultant.

Good
Content but I was through the book on audible in less than 2hours. I didn’t check the length before purchasing.

Limited advice for my area of consulting

I don't know why but I have yet to find a book that provides specific advice for consulting in the pharmaceutical industry including product development and manufacturing. There are so many important areas requiring consultants (e.g., how to deal with the FDA or operate in a regulated industry). But this is lacking. The Top 20 consulting areas includes Beauty and Fashion. Why not the pharmaceutical industry - or any other manufacturing industry, come to that?

Like most of these books, it breezes over one of the most challenging parts: how to find the right person to contact in a company. The book just suggests contact somewhere and set up a meeting. Or dangle yourself out there on the web waiting for people to bite. Yeah, right.

I'm looking for solid advice about how to get clients. This book fails.

Don't bother

Reads like a high schooler googled the topic and wrote a paper on it. Zero useful insights. Just a rehash of clichéd advice. Disappointing.

Mind-numbing

Incredibly remedial. If you find this book insightful, you probably shouldn't be starting a consulting business. Painful to listen to.

Agree with "Don't Bother"

This reads exactly like a high school paper that was mainly Googled. Boring, outdated, and doesn't adding anything useful to the conversation. There are certainly no "step by step" actions to it. I'm disappointed that I paid for this title.
