Sometimes work can be murder.

Detective Sergeant Kiara Lui has just broken up a loud brawl between two blokes in front of the Warrigal Public Library. But just as she's about to leave the scene, a man plummets from the sky and slams into the bike rack right in front of her, dead.

Head of Library Services, Neville Adams, was hated by staff, borrowers, and in fact anybody who had ever met him. What might have tipped that hatred into outright murder? The building is quickly sealed, trapping all the suspects inside. Someone should be in custody within minutes.

Instead, the investigation spirals outward, ensnaring half the town, and possibly connecting to a missing-persons a case that has yet to be solved, and which has had the whole town talking. If Neville’s killer isn't found fast, their first victim may not be the last . . .

A darkly-funny, propulsive thriller from the bestselling author of Kill Your Husbands.

I overall enjoyed it, but when the author presents a group of suspects where a few are shifty/clearly hiding something and one who has no suspicion - obviously it’s going to be the one with no suspicion being laid on them for no reason right? I don’t want to spoil it for readers who may appreciate the story more but the timing of all of these people’s storylines and convergence on attempting the same thing at the same time wasn’t a “twist” for me but a heavy handed attempt to make the story more interesting that left me feeling like it was very forced and painfully unbelievable.

Story is both predictable and messy due to wild coincidences that felt forced

The story was good, but it took a minute to figure out who was talking each time. The plot was good and kept me guessing

Lots of twists and turns

Easy to follow twists and turns. Some unnecessary characters that try to trip you up but it was good. I wish there were specific voice actors for the characters consistently. The Ben perspective Kiara voice was bothering...

Great

I like Jack Heath and this was a good listen without spending a credit. Checkout his other books about an FBI consultant who’s also a cannibal!

Worth a listen.
