I Gained a Greater Perspective

Having paid close attention in seminary during the year we studied The Doctrine and Covenants, and having always been fascinated by the History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I thought this would simply be a review of what I already knew, but it was much more. It made me think more deeply about the wise of this holy book. My testimony was strengthened as I listened to the explanations of all that surrounded the events that led to each revelation, section, or declaration. I'm glad I listened to this!

Great Insight into the Doctrine and Covenants

I gained a lot of insight into the events that prompted the revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants. Very well-written and nicely narrated.

Comprehensive review of the Revelations

Enjoyed listening; but found it difficult to follow as the discussion was not completely chronological. Would have liked to also follow along with a text document.

Wonderful historical truths

I am very blessed to have found this book. I love to read firsthand accounts of Church and American history.

Would like to have the sections of D&C included

I loved the history and would love to have this recording compiled with the sections of D&C so the chapters in this book would become extended chapter headings for the revelations themselves. and then I could listen to the sections with the context fresh in mind.

Perspective !

So many times we learn about the revelations without understanding why the revelation was given. I understand sometimes we just need to take revelations on faith. However there are so many lessons to be learned when we have the opportunity to look at the circumstances of life for the people who the revelation was given. This book as helped me feel closer to the early leaders of the church. To feel there struggles. To relate there doubts and fears to my own and take comfort in the revelations they received.

Helps everything make sense

These were real people with real birthplaces and in the census records back in the early days of our republic when our laws didn’t protect freedom of religion. They lived very difficult lives and risked their lives to seek truth and proclaim truth and I would be proud and grateful to be a true witness to such prophetic events.

Rich With History!!

I love this history. I really enjoyed listening. My understanding has increased. I cried my eyes out during the chapter of "Remembering The Martyrdom" I mourned as if I was there. The added history context of the manifesto with the scriptural doctrine was fascinating. Many of the stories shared weren't the traditional narrative learned in primary or Sunday school. New details, new journal accounts, different perspectives about the same events made this a new treasure in my library. I know I will listen to it again.

Great book on LDS church history!

This was a great book portraying the revaluations through the history of establishing the LDS church with a lot of facts about some of the more prominent figures during this time.

Definitely worth the time

Loved it. Learned a lot about the history and circumstances of each revelation. Wish I could find similar text regarding the Bible and Book of Mormon.
