Publisher's summary

In Solitude, Oregon, everyone has secrets… and some will kill to keep them.

When she believes a teen is falsely accused of drug dealing, social worker Carly Taylor takes on a high-risk case and her estranged husband - the detective in charge of the investigation - to prove the boy innocent. A deadly new designer drug has taken hold of her small rural hometown of Solitude, Oregon, and Carly is determined to find the real dealer and clear the teen’s name. But the deeper she digs into the case, the more danger she unearths, until someone decides it’s time for Carly to move on… permanently.

Investigator Seth Harding knows he can’t stop his wife when she has a child to protect. But he risks any chance of reconciliation with Carly if he can’t learn to accept her dangerous job. When a drug dealer decides Carly is getting too close, will Seth lose her altogether?

A pulse-pounding Rogue River novella, Gone to Her Grave is the second exciting addition to the new romantic suspense series from Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot.

Gone to Her Grave

I don't know that I could ever do Carly's job, but what she does is important so I can see why Seth, her husband, is worried for her. But he also has to have some faith that she knows what she is doing.

His job is just as important. Both have hard and potentially dangerous jobs but it's the trust they need to have in one another. It's kind of no wonder their marriage is suffering.

I enjoyed this instalment. I am wondering where it's going to lead. ON to the next.

Enjoying the narration.

Very good narration

The narration is very good with the appropriate speed, emotion, and voices. The story is also very good. It is book 2 in this series but can be heard as a standalone if you choose. I love the characters and the family interaction. The suspense is very good but this book does have a lot of angst in it.

Rogue River Noveella series

The novella series has alternate stories written by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliott. Although classified as romance-suspense, they are excellent suspense stories with little or no romance. Kate Rudd narrates superbly.

Great book #2 in the series

Another great read, compelling characters. A small town with big problems. Plus there's something brewing in the late sheriff's death.

Good mystery

The mystery was good and yes I recommend this book to people who like this author. Be prepared though to delve into some relationship problems that people in high stress jobs face. It was handled well, but I wasn't prepared to read about that in a murder mystery.

Quick, But Good

While novellas aren't usually my choice for audiobooks, I find that I love the serial novellas quite a bit. My issue with the shorter books has always been a lack of character building, but since serial novellas keep a core of the same characters, their development is much better. I'm loving this series by two of my favorite authors for romantic suspense and thrillers.

This installment focused more on Carly, the younger daughter of the recently buried former sheriff. It might just be because of the subplot that ran through the book, that of her estrangement to her husband Seth, but she seems a more difficult character to engage with. It's always a tough topic, and Carly seems cold and shrill in comparison to Seth, who really wants to work things out.

All that being said, it was still a great story, as the law enforcement officers of the area continue to search for the source of a potent and deadly new drug. I'm still all in, and feel confident that I'll find much to like about Carly in the near future. If you're new to this series, it's certainly possible to pick this audiobook up and enjoy it. But your best enjoyment will be gained from starting with the first book in the series for better depth and understanding.
