Publisher's summary

A rich, warm, intergenerational time-travel story for ages nine and up

Maya loves to cook with her grandmother - her Halmunee - to connect with the rich family history associated with each dish, a history Maya's mom would prefer stayed in the past. While cooking with Halmunee, something remarkable happens - the food creates such a strong memory that Maya and Halmunee are transported back in time through the memory itself. Halmunee explains that the women in her family have the gift of time travel through food and Maya can do it too, if she practices. While eating her way through the past, Maya meets Jeff: another young time traveler who brings her to the Golden Orchard, a garden of memories filled with the trees of so many people's lives. Maya learns that time moves in ways she couldn't imagine and sometimes family keep their memories secret to protect the ones they love.

Interesting Take on Time Travel Tropes

This story is a cute new telling of time travel, with mixed elements from The Time Traveler's Wife, the Man Who Folded Himself, and the Adam Sandler movie, Click.

It was a quick listen, the narrator did a great job.

Side Note: I'm in Korea right now under quarantine... the way the author described all the various Korean foods made my mouth water! I know what I am going to eat as soon as I am able!

Cute story!

I love the description of the food, and the relationship it has within this family's dynamics. The time travel is a bit hard to comprehend at first but gets easier to go along with as the story progresses. Some questions that I had weren't answered, but then again maybe that is what makes this story intriguing. Quick listen and light hearted.

Don't miss this one!

Got this book as a free title listen. Wow, what a surprise! Excellent story line, great narration. Very unique! Extremely enjoyable listen. Loved hearing the Korean words and about the culture. Hope Flora Ahn might think about a sequel.

So much potential

There is a rich depth to these characters. The history and food are enchanting. There is so much potential to take this story in many directions in subsequent volumes; I hope she writes more.

Wow. I can relate.

I didn’t know the story was Korean culture related. When I started listening to the stories of different foods and culture oddities/quarks, I couldn’t help my self... I was grinning! It was well written and entertaining. I loved it so much, I shared the book with my grown up daughters. Thank you for the story.

twists and turns and I am still a bit confused about the middle. I will listen again to figure it out unless I am supposed to be confused.
