John is a retired professor at Miami University (the one in SW Ohio ... no, it's not in Florida ... no, it's not really called Miami of Ohio ... it was a university before Florida was a state ... oh, never mind). He was based in a department of statistics but his broad interests have led him to be an affiliate member of the departments of biology, sociology & gerontology and media, journalism and film along with the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability. He is interested in the design and analysis of environmental and occupational health studies including quantitative risk estimation. Promoting statistical and quantitative literacy along with communicating quantitative information have always been an interest for him. In 2013, he co-founded the Stats+Stories podcast with a colleagues in journalism, and you can catch new episodes each week on Thursdays at 9 am Eastern Time (use your favorite podcast app or go to http://www.statsandstories.net).
