Publisher's summary

An instant number one New York Times best seller

The scorching new thriller from the number one New York Times best-selling author of The Girl on the Train.

A Slow Fire Burning twists and turns like a great thriller should, but it's also deep, intelligent and intensely human.” (Lee Child)

“Only a clairvoyant could anticipate the book’s ending.” (New York Times)

With the same propulsion that captivated millions of listeners worldwide in The Girl on the Train and Into the Water, Paula Hawkins unfurls a gripping, twisting story of deceit, murder, and revenge.

When a young man is found gruesomely murdered in a London houseboat, it triggers questions about three women who knew him. Laura is the troubled one-night-stand last seen in the victim’s home. Carla is his grief-stricken aunt, already mourning the recent death of yet another family member. And Miriam is the nosy neighbor clearly keeping secrets from the police. Three women with separate connections to the victim. Three women who are – for different reasons – simmering with resentment. Who are, whether they know it or not, burning to right the wrongs done to them.

When it comes to revenge, even good people might be capable of terrible deeds. How far might any one of them go to find peace? How long can secrets smolder before they explode into flame?

Look what you started.

Bit far fetched, but still recommend A+ narration!

Not bad! Glad to see Rosamund Pike is back too...One of my all time favorite AudioBooks was one that she narrated several years ago (William Boyd's RESTLESS)

Perfect

This was an absolutely amazing and surprising ride. Liked Paula Hawkins tentatively. I don’t know why. I had a hard time getting into the drowning pool and didn’t read girl on a train bc I’ve seen the film already. This book tho- pure genius. Woven so intricately but not confusingly. All loose ends tied up but not so prettily as to be trite or predictable. Couldn’t recommend it more highly. I’d venture to say it’s her best.

Much Better Book Than Title

The author masterfully succeeds in cutting up her timeline and character perspectives and reshuffling them into an exquisitely tender and slow reveal. Characters are drawn with remarkable depth, often in dark and despairing tones. Underlying their colliding lives is a patchy, worn social fabric that’s alarmingly real. I enjoyed this novel more than I liked The Girl on the Train, perhaps in part because I listened to Rosamund Pike’s beautiful performance on the Audible edition.

Slow Start

I am not a murder mystery fan. I saw this book in a magazine and thought it looked interesting.
The story drew me in the more I listened. I enjoyed it in the end and looked forward to my daily walks as I listened. The reader had a lovely voice which I recognized (straight away)

I couldn’t get into it

I kept rewinding to see if I missed something but it was too hard to follow who was who and it hurt my brain at some point.

Laura, Laura, Laura, how I love her, though every conversation would begin, " I know it's not your fault. And how proud must Agatha be that the tradition is in good and sure minds. Me Like as expected, top notch. New to Me Hawkins, will read more, right away. TY, PH.
