Publisher's summary
Welcome to the town of Rising.
A place where everyone knows everyone else.
A place where no one locks their doors.
A place where everyone's worst fears...are about to come true.
"The writing is superb. The characters are believable and sympathetic... the theme of a parent who’s lost a child figures strongly; it’s powerful stuff, and written from the perspective of experience that no one should ever have to suffer." - The Horror Fiction Review

Bishop is trapped deep inside Montana's Apex Valley along with his injured wife, a shotgun-wielding stranger named Colbrick, and a sneaking suspicion he's never making it back to Chicago. Things no man has seen before haunt the woods. Strange animal species creep behind pine trees, some of them with flashing red tags that blink faster and faster. Giant birds mimic the sound of humans and lord over the sky. Leaf-shaped creatures attack anything that moves and flash vivid colors across their glistening backs.

Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Yeti - Dozens of names refer to the existence of a similar creature. Native American tribes have hundreds of stories that have been passed down from generation to generation. The Cherokee has one such story of a beast called Tsula 'kalu, who is said to be a forest-dwelling giant living in solitude covered in hair from head to foot. Many believe that the government is aware of Sasquatch, and to protect financial interests, they choose to cover up what they know. Many other theories permeate the landscape of cryptozoology, yet no scientific proof has ever been documented. ...

Jillian hopes she has finally found a safe haven in the Catskills, but as she looks out at the dense forest surrounding her secluded RV campground, she can't help but wonder if she's leapt from the pan into the fire. After leaving a promising career at the FBI, she's been on the run, constantly pursued by malevolent supernatural entities. Alaska and Wyoming didn't provide the sanctuary she was hoping for, but maybe upstate New York will be different. But as Jillian tries to settle into her new life, she can't shake the feeling that something is off. It's not just the strange noises she ...

Great book except for the virtual voice
I'm really into this genre and I thought the writing was great, the story was unique and kept me engaged. The virtual voice is why I took away some stars though. I have a pretty good imagination and was able to conjure up the feelings that were lacking in the awkward narration. I think this is worth a try, even if you're against fake narration.

Great story
While the AI voice dragged at points, it didn't take away from the story. The main characters were well developed and the listener identifies with them, but even the secondary characters resonated.

Rising Fears
This is a great book. I wish a human narrator was available to really get the scares across with human inflections. Loved the story will read more of this author.

Really great story despite being narrated by virtual voice. This book was actually scary and would make a great movie!

Very Stephen King like!
The automated voice does not have as much inflection at a good reader, but it’s better than a poor reader. I like Stephen King, and bet if you like Stephen King you will like this book as well.
