British Story set in Atlanta, Georgia

Overall the story was very good. A little slower paced, which would have helped make it more gripping, if it wasn't so slow. The hardest things to accept were the British narrator trying to speak with an overly emphasized American accent, The Southern accents were way too overdone. And then there is the British words for American items. Torch for flashlight, biscuit for cookie, R A V 4 for RAV4, boot for trunk. I love British stories, and have absolutely no problem with the stories, however if you're going to write an American story, make sure you get it edited by someone who understands the words to make it more believable. I'm sure this story could have been set in Great Britain somewhere and been just as good.

Could have been good… if it was just set in the UK!

Story wasn’t bad and I would have enjoyed it more, but I had a hard time getting past:
* The British narrator who used a not so great southern accent for the dialog portions of the story. Wish it was consistent. I personally liked his British accent and would have enjoyed that through the whole story.
* The supposed southern characters who used British terminology like: boot (instead of trunk of car), torch (instead of flashlight), various other terms that are very obviously not used in the US. The biggest was a whole section where they talked about an upcoming football game on the pitch with cheerleaders and a game winning “goal” - I had no idea if they were talking about soccer or American football bc it sounded like they were talking about US football but all the terms were definitely soccer (uk football). And any hs soccer game I’ve ever gone to, definitely doesn’t have cheerleaders.
It was all just too distracting for me. If the author is British, they should have better researched US terminology if their characters were supposed to be from the south and Chicago. Or had they just set the whole story in the UK, I’d have enjoyed that even more (especially with narrators natural accent).
Overall thoughts…could have been good but was a flop for me.

Great story

Keeps you engaged for the whole story. The last line is chilling. I will be checking into more stories from the author.

WHERE ARE WE?!

British narrator with British terminology (torch, cinema, biscuits), but it’s set in GEORGIA?! As in the state in the US? And they hang out in the summertime outdoors to enjoy the beautiful weather? The story would have been really good, but I kept getting pulled out of the narrative because southerners eat cookies; biscuits go with gravy or jam. I’m not sure why she didn’t just set it in England! It would have been 5/5 stars.

just boring

besides it being set in the U.S. the use of British terms kept pulling me out of the story...which was dull and full of every possible possession trope. I finished it hoping it would get better, but it was just Plain bad in my opinion

Every Possession Trope in the Book

What started off as a mild annoyance at a clearly British author trying to write a story set in the US turned into eye roll after hard eye roll. Predictable, inauthentic, and unoriginal. How old was the son supposed to be again? And you couldn’t think to give the bad guy a less offensive name? If you like being beat over the head with American stereotypes wrapped up in British expressions and having Catholicism save the day, yet again, you might like it. Otherwise just save yourself a few hours and rewatch The Exorcist. Kudos to the narrator who did the best he could with what was given to him.

it was enjoyable, and interesting to the ear and quit intriguing to the ear. why I don't leave feedback because there is a limit on number of words.

I loved the characters and moody setting!

I couldn't stop listening! Nice character development. Very atmospheric. It was not overly graphic. It slowly stressed out the reader, building tension with each new event. A creepy, good read.

Very Engaging

It’s not often that I actually listen to a horror novel that gives me the creeps, but this was one of those times. It wasn’t scary all the way through but I think the author did a great job of giving the readers the creeps off and on. This book was highly engaging. Good story line, slightly annoying married couple, but otherwise decent enough characters, and pretty easy to follow along. Looking forward to listening to more from the author.
