About this listen

The most terrifying monsters aren't found in dreams....

Four young socialites have gone missing in the Chicago area. Two found dead, bearing the signature marks of a brutal serial killer. With the kind of tragedy that mars Nola Tensley's past, she should be concerned, but without a pot to piss in, all the struggling single mom cares about is making a normal life for her son.

After all, she's clearly not the murderer's type. Or is she?

When Rhett Voss, an enigmatic and handsome stranger, answers her ad for the outdated in-law suite at the back of her property, offering double her asking price, Nola really can't refuse. Even though the supposed Wall Street Wolf seems better suited for a high-rise downtown - a suspicion that quickly turns into hindsight once she submits to the flirtations of her charming new tenant and, consequently, unearths a series of disturbing revelations.

Her curiosities lead her down the path of a madman whose moniker, The Sandman, only hints at the grisly nature of his crimes. He's smart. Evasive. A cunning psychopath with a twisted method of disposing his victims.

And his hunting grounds are hitting too close to home.

Contains mature themes.

The Spice 🥵

I love when there are a male and female narrator. It makes it so much better. The story was great and I love that we also get to see into the mind of the villian. Starting book two now!

Spicy thriller

I picked this up because I fell in love with Keri Lake's writing in Nocticadia. It was a great story and had be eager to get to the next chapter. The male narrator was a bit much, I liked him for The Sandman, the theatrics of his voice made sense, but not for all the others, it was a bit distracting.

Good and bad dark.

New author for me. Ooh this was interesting! Dark and hot af towards the end. Voss better go all John Wick on Carl! 🤬😭 I've come close to DNF'ing this for the warning. My one beef.
Warning for cat mutilation.

Voss I enjoyed his character

I didn’t like how it ended. We didn’t really get many answers and didn’t realize it was a series.

Definitely dark with a bit of good spice.

I definitely like the narrators. It's a duet so of course it ends with you wanting more but that's expected. Parts of the story are very dark so make sure to read any trigger warnings. I expected a little more spice but what you get is good and I like the overall story.

Unexpected Thriller

This is definitely unlike the other Keri Lake books I’ve read. Beware, because it can be gruesome. But a quick and easy read!

MMC Narration was distracting

The male narrator was very hard to get through. I found it overly dramatic and cringe in parts that were meant to me serious, his tone and inflection was theatrical and very off putting. The plot was good and held my interest but the male narrator made it feel less immersive in the story based on his voice. I’m a die hard Keri fan and will always be and glad I was finally able to read these while they were free to stream in Audible but the MMC casting was cringe. On to book two anyways because momma didn’t raise no quitter 😂

Dark and disturbing

Yes this book is pretty disturbing but if you’ve read other books by Keri Lake than you shouldn’t be too surprised. The narrators do a wonderful job, in fact at times the voice of the Sandman is almost too creepy.

Not the best but still very good

Well written with good detail that gives you a clear picture in your head. Dual POV with great male and female narration. Not as much sex as I would have thought but plenty of hints and foreshadowing the seems to promise the good stuff is on its way. Personally I’m not into romance books that have kids in them. The whole single parent new lover thing is a massive turn off for me. I made an exception because I just discovered this author and am LOVING her. Also the two books in this series happened to be free right now. As much as I don’t like reading about interactions with the kid and all that, it wasn’t that bad. While the kid definitely comes up more than I’d like, it doesn’t ruin the story. I’m entertained and intrigued enough to get over the kid and download book 2 .
