Publisher's summary

Erotica author Kate McMannis has crippling writer's block and a deadline in less than two months. When a beautiful woman named Erato appears at her house and claims to be her muse, Kate isn't certain whether Erato is mentally ill or truly her supernatural savior. Either way, when the incredible sex Erato offers leads to genuine inspiration, Kate isn't inclined to refuse her unusual brand of help. When a little fantasy fulfillment with Erato inadvertently leads her to the shy and gorgeous Olive Johnson, unexpected feelings threaten to derail Kate's motivation once again. Erato is just as determined to keep her writing on track as Kate is to explore her very real attraction to Olive - which leads to friction that threatens not only Kate's ability to meet her deadline but also her burgeoning romance with Olive. Caught between a contractual obligation and her heart, is there any way for Kate to have it all?

Mixed feelings...

First off I would like to say that once it ended, I was happy with the book overall. With that being said, I have a few dislikes I would like to share.
1) The writing style was weird at times. To formal and somewhat ridiculous. It probably didn’t help with the way the narrator delivered said comments, but I believe it mostly had to do with the way it was written.
2) The narrator was difficult to adjust to. I have listened to one or two others of hers and had the same problem. She does do a good job with distinct voices though. I think it has to do with her trying to make everything sound so exciting. I don’t know...it’s hard to put a finger on.
3) While I completely understand this is a work of fiction, some things were hard to swallow.
4) I would like to leave you with this...Meghan O’Brien is a fantastic writter and has many other REALLY good books!!!

THE BLACK ACCENT

You know what I hate? When a character is black the narrator takes it upon themselves to do a 'black accent' even though there is no accent written into the words. It's like a narrator deciding to do a random British accent. Why?? It's jarring and weird and unnecessary.

A diffeerent view of a MUSE

If you could sum up The Muse in three words, what would they be?

Unexpected, Sobering, and Weird

Who was your favorite character and why?

All actually Kate, Olive and of course Erato (the muse)

What does Emily Beresford bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She was very good with voices and emotions, and you always knew who was speaking. Made it enjoyable

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Muse is a Devil

Any additional comments?

Meghan O'Brien writes amazing lesbian themed stories. She really took the thought of what most of us believe a muse should be and gave it a real shake and twist. I enjoyed this story and the surprise twists and turns. Loved the ending

Mad spoilers, Big caution

***Spoilers***

You are in a literal hostage situation. You are being held in your house beyond your will. You have had everything necessary to reach the outside world taken from you except your own two feet and a window. AND YET, instead of acknowledging your situation for what it very clearly is, your only goal is to go and talk to a girl because you have a crush.
*Claps hands together*
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?

If I was in that situation I would've never let my phone leave my side after the first time she stole it. Same with my keys. I wouldn't trust that woman with sh*t, she's a literal stranger.

Rule 1 would have been "you're not allowed in my room under any circumstances unless I let you in each time." Not "do whatever it takes to make me finish this book." Who's the insane one in this story? One person is acting like a robot with clear directions, or the other just being an idiot who doesn't think through the words coming out of their mouth. I just can't right now.

To the stories benefit, as hard as it is to keep listening to it at times, I also just want to know how it'll possibly make up for the insanity I've had to witness.

What the heck!!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I am floored at how bad this book was. Ms. O'Brien is one of my fav's. I don't think it was the supernatural aspect because I loved Wild. This was just so unbelievable that it was hard to read or listen to. I don't have any thing I can say to help.

What could Meghan O’Brien have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I really don't know.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The ending of this book was the best part of this book. I am not being a smart ass, it really was better written than the beginning or middle.

Any additional comments?

I will still read the next one of Ms. Obrien's books but I sincerely hope the next one is better

upsetting

steamy love scenes, but really disliked the supposed omnipotence of the muse. i wanted to tell her to shut up and get out the whole time. my manipulation tolerance is very low though, so there’s that. don’t love this voice actor’s performance enough to listen again. maybe try a black woman to narrate; idk why but olive’s voice made me uncomfortable. like a caricature. i’m sure that wasn’t the intention, but that’s what i heard. love mo’b’s work, but this definitely was not my favorite.
