Publisher's summary

Spiritless, I sat by the pool searching for an excuse to spark up a conversation with a beautiful stranger. A beautiful person. A stranger. Anyone! Booking a holiday alone seemed like such a good idea at the time, despite the harsh reality that I was actually faced with. I was on holiday, in a strange country, alone! How pathetic!

This erotic thriller is an instant arouser that tells the tale of Raven, a curious holiday maker, as she sets off in search of a raunchy adventure to remember. When she meets Nelson, a charming fleecer that works at The Vacation Lodge, she is instantly drawn to him. And he's willing to take her on a thrilling ride. Though she is skeptical, she accepts his proposal, until she discovers his dirty secret.... As her desire for him intensifies, she uses her taste for strong cocktails and chasers to manage her ever-changing emotions. But with the constant battle between her wavering morals and his irresistible seductions, has she bitten off more than she can chew?

Sexy!

The Vacation Lodge is a mix between Omar Tyree's Fly Girl and Terry McMillians How Steela Got Her Groove Back. It's listed as an erotica/thriller. I agree with the erotica description, but I wouldn't classify this as a suspense or thriller.

Raven, our lead character, decides to go on a solo holiday (vacation) to Jamaica. Though it isn't boldly stated in the text, it's clear when the story begins that she is looking for the type of entertainment that comes with a sexy male involved.

Erotica stories face the same challenges as a good XXX rated movie. (Not sure if I can say the P word). Either you're reading for the good story with steamy scenes OR you are reading for the intimate scenes but want just a little storytelling to go along with it. This book gives you both versions. The first half seems to jump straight into the intimate scenes as Raven encounters two men that she finds attractive for different reasons. The second half of the story begins to give more background on the characters but has less intimate scenes.

In all, the intimate scenes in the book are done elegantly. They aren't overly vulgar or risque'. Most erotica fans should be pleased and will enjoy this book. My favorite of the steamy scenes involve a threesome that happens towards the end. You'll have to read the book to find out who is involved 🤐.

At first I thought Raven was a mature woman who was brave and independent enough to a good time alone. But as the story progressed, she became more immature in both her desires and decision making. An example: She talks about her constant paranoia in one part of the story, but in the same chapter she goes off into the dark woods with someone who she thought was a possible rapist. Then in another situation, she stated she is only looking to have a good time while she is in town. But when she meets men she is questioning them on whether they have kids or other sexual partners... sounds more like a hubby list rather than a hook-up list. Makes it seems like she secretly wants more than what she is saying. Lastly, there's theres a scene where she sucks her thumb... Come on, Raven! Big girls don't do that 🤣.

Sorry for the slight spoiler but the story ends in a cliffhanger that truly comes out of nowhere. In a book that has nothing close to an action scene, it makes the ending feel a bit out of place.

Now before finishing up my general review I feel the need to implore you ladies NOT to emulate the actions of this character. This is a fiction novel written for entertainment. Though exciting on the pages, there are real dangers in some of the decisions made by this character when traveling solo. Do your research and make sensible decisions. Personal, I'm not leaving my resort for any reason other than to go to the airport... but if you decide to explore, then be smart about it. That's not specific to Jamaica, but I'm referring to any type of travel to wherever. Stay safe ladies. 😚

Specifics to the Audio Book:

The book was read by the author who does a decent job with reading the story. As an American, her accents and dialect seem to be well done. But I've been told Americans aren't good judges on other countries accents 😂🤣... so take it for what you think it's worth 😊.

There is one section with way too many background sounds... I like them when they're used sparingly... However in chapter 7 we get: I open door... door creaks... I stomp across floor... stomping sounds... I open fridge.... fridge sound... that is too much for so little results... what would been nice for an erotica story would be erotic sounds in the steamy scenes... I'll let you use your imagination on what I mean.

3 Stars 🌟🌟🌟- Good Book. I like the overall concept and it was delivered well. Most common ranking for a book I enjoyed and look forward to the next.
