Publisher's summary

You might think you want to be a member - but trust me, this is one club you don't want to join. It's not a place where people go to live out their deepest, darkest sexual desires - there are no handcuffs or blindfolds. The 27 Club only admits those who die young and tragically. Having just lost my brother to the club, there is no doubt: I'm next. This is my destiny... and I was ready to yield.

But then I met Nate. He awakened a sensuality in me that had never been explored, never satisfied. I knew then that I could no longer accept my destiny. Nate's presence controls me. I'm overwhelmed by his touch, his words; my every thought is consumed by desire. I believe he was brought into my life for a reason. Nate doesn't believe in destiny, but I do. And if there's a way to cheat it - I must.

A wonderful unique story

Whether you believe in "destiny" or not, the story of Zoey and Zack will make you a believer of this story. So much personal growth and fulfillment on the path to life, love, and happiness. Can finding love cheat destiny or is her path to love destiny?

The 27 Club

If you could sum up The 27 Club in three words, what would they be?

Would read again.

What did you like best about this story?

The story itself. Actually went back to the beginning because I was so surprised about what happened when Chapter 2 started. Having brothers, I could relate to Zoe and her brother Zach. Nate, also helped to give this story a wonderful feeling.
The narrator was perfect, really helped tremendously with bringing The 27 Club alive. (Callie Dalton). Being a native Floridian also brought the story closer to my heart.

Have you listened to any of Callie Dalton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to any of Callie Dalton's other performances, but will be sure and look for them.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Can you believe in just fate?"

Any additional comments?

Thank you "Kim Karr" for this very in depth book. I did not want it to end. Loved all of the twists and turns and WILL read it again, and look for you other books.

3.5 STARS..... GOOD ENOUGH BUT I HOPED FOR BETTER

A nice easygoing contemporary listen about Zoey's belief that her family is cursed and some members of her family have died when they reached 27.... like her Grandfather did, her Mother did, her Brother Zach did and now she's convinced that destiny has picked her to be next. Raw and grieving over her Brother's death she's gone to Florida to clear out his house and to reconnect with his life but what she finds is Zach's handsome best friend Nate, instant chemistry and a whole lot of questions follow.

Nate's a no commitment Alpha type of guy and Zoey thinks she has no future so, whilst she's staying there boxing up her Brother's stuff they agree to have a 'no strings' fling because the sexual tension between them is off the charts. Shocking discoveries are made regarding her Brother and there's an even bigger one later on. Meanwhile she is battling her ever growing feelings for Nate and, even though they continue to have lots and lots of very enjoyable sex, she cannot allow herself to get attached to him because of her dreaded destiny. But Nate gives out mixed signals.... possessiveness, jealousy and then distance..... until a hurricane forces his hand.

Told from Zoey's POV but with a couple of chapters from Nate and Zach's POV too and the narration was good, there was humor but somehow I just couldn't connect to the characters... especially Zoey whose 'doom and gloom' attitude got repetitive and boring.

Worth a credit? There seemed to be a lot of sex but not much romance (until the end) and the plot didn't have a happy vibe and it was misleading as The 27 Club is just what Zoey called it and it wasn't an actual Club with members. So, I'm afraid I have to say NO not worth a credit IMHO but maybe a purchase when on sale.

...but did you die?

Bridged together by her brother Zach, Zoey finds herself in the arms of her brothers best friend. Zoey never met Nate, she only spoke to him by phone, email, or the internet. They had a complex relationship where a no-strings casual arrangement was made.
Since the day Zoey turned twenty-seven she’s felt lost and alone. She lives her life with caution while her brother lived a reckless life. With a little help from her brothers best friend he helps her live life. The twenty-seven club looms over Zoey like it did her brother.

Narrator:
Callie Dalton performs all the characters in this book. I say this everytime an author chooses a solo narrator, but I much prefer when an author uses two narrators. It’s disappointing listening to a female narrator performs the male scenes. A female voice just doesn’t have the same impact as it does listening to a guy voice a male character. As for her role as Zoey she was ideal.
The story was read and performed word perfectly. The sound quality was outstanding.

Overall:
It’s nothing like I remember reading so long again when I gave it a raving 5⭐️s in my review. Upon my revisit I’m not so sure it’s worth those solid stars. I had a completely different experience revisiting The 27 Club via audiobook versus reading the ebook several years ago. It had nothing to do with the narrator. It seems I’ve grown as a reader and my standards are much higher. What I expect from a writer is a dialogue driven story. While this had an original concept it was the threading in of the off-limits relationship between the sister and brothers best friend that dominated the story. The angst was short lived leaving the reader with a sexually driven story where Kim tried to wove in some explicit kink scenes. This was by no means a BDSM story, but it did venture into a graphic and erotic type of sex. There were an unnecessary amount of sex scenes making it seem like these two characters only thrived from the sexual connection.

Kim doesn’t leave much to the reader’s imagination. I prefer for authors to leave something for me to fill in the blanks allowing me to use my own imagination. Every thing is explained in detail. The sex scenes became redundant and boring. I was hoping for a different storyline focusing more on the 27 club concept not this sexual arrangement.

To explicit in the sex scenes for my liking

started listening to this book but never finished it the book is pornographic in places in my opinion--the story was shaping up good but couldn't get through the other parts. I would like a refund on this one
