A. Afaf bought her first book when she was five years old and soon after decided she wanted to write her own. Using words as a superpower, she has written her way out of exams she was not prepared to take, composed letters to excuse the otherwise inexcusable and convinced numerous people she was correct when she was completely in the wrong. Inspired by a love of language and heritage, a love she shared with both her parents, and emboldened by the stories her father had told her from childhood, she was inspired to delve into her family's Middle Eastern roots and write a novel set in the 7th century, during the transition from paganism to Islam. In the Shadow of the Prophet is a work of historic fiction, and it is her first novel.
