Andrea Emily Stumpf is a German-born, American-trained international lawyer and award-winning author. She worked in several private law firms and companies over many years, then transitioned to the World Bank's legal department for as many years, before striking out on her own. While continuing to provide expert support to her partnership clients and publishing professional books, she has now also embarked on other projects, including translating her great-great-grandmother's writings from the nineteenth century. As a descendant of Sayyida Salme / Emily Ruete, who published her Memoirs in German in 1886, the first book ever published by an Arab woman, Andrea has felt a special responsibility for ensuring that her ancestor's voice is accurately represented. This has meant replacing the two most widely available English translations, from 1888 and 1907, with a translation that meets present-day standards of authenticity. Andrea is excited to make Sayyida Salme's inspiring story from Zanzibar to Germany and her remarkable insights of East to West newly available today. >@ www.sayyidasalme.com ; www.emilyruete.com
