I've been a writer for a few decades, and most of my writing is in my academic discipline. I hold a Ph.D. in philosophy of religion and have worked as a university professor and public scholar for the last 30 years teaching world religions, world literature, philosophy and ethics. Some of my books are highly theoretical, but most of them are designed for the lay reader who doesn't necessarily have any background in world religions or philosophy. I've broadened my writing into other genres in addition to academic writing in my field. I published my first novel--Quail Fried Rice--in July 2012 and I also published a little self-help book--Stop the Crap: Six Lessons To Get Your Life Back--in the fall of 2011. I also wrote as a freelancer for several years for the Houston Chronicle, the 7th largest daily newspaper in the U.S. I work hard to make my indie writing as strong as the books I've published with traditional publishers. Quality speaks for itself, and I want my readers to feel that they have purchased something of quality and value. I also want my writing to make a positive difference in the world, at both the individual and community levels.
