Barbara Baker is a Canadian author who writes realistic, fast paced wilderness adventure novels set in Banff National Park. Her books bring readers into the heart of her homeland, the mountains of Banff, where her characters must navigate their way through new surroundings as well as manage the turmoil life has in store for them. Readers are sent on a roller coaster of emotions from laughter to tears through many misadventures. Barbara grew up in Banff in the 60s and 70s when it was a quiet, nowhere place - not the iconic vacation destination it is today. Her childhood escapades exploring the wilderness has a huge impact on her writing. The highlights of her writing experience include: Carousel Pictures made a film of her Globe and Mail essay, Life Support, which played in the Toronto International Film Festival (fall 2019). She received the John Kenneth Galbraith Literary Award in 2016. Many of her short stories are published in Our Canada magazine, Prairie Fire, The Globe and Mail, Chicken Soup, and numerous anthologies.
