E. Carey Slay, Jr. was born in small industrial town in north Alabama. After graduating from high school, he left home to attend Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, on a ministerial scholarship. After a couple of unsuccessful years in college, due primarily to immaturity, the armed forces called. Four years later, an appreciation for what college could do for a young man, Carey rejoined the college ranks, changed his career to business and did not stop until his VA bene!ts ran out. The results were a BA Degree in Finance and MA in Personnel Management. He began his career in banking as a trust of!cer and many years later served as Founding Director and eventual Chairman of a community bank. However, most of his professional career was in the retail automobile business where he began as a salesman, then CFO of several dealerships and was blessed to eventually become a minor owner of a successful Toyota dealership. Although Carey had made a career in !nance and banking, he also enjoys teaching Christian themed material. After leading small groups through books like C.S. Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters” and Young’s “The Shack”, he decided to pen his own Christian speculative !ction story. Cara Slay Coleman is the daughter of E. Carey Slay, Jr. and his wife Janice Slay. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida and raised in south Alabama where she currently resides as a mother of four children with her husband, Jonathan Coleman. She graduated from Troy University of Dothan with a bachelor’s degree in !nance but has spent most of her life serving as a stay-at-home mother. As a connoisseur of !ction, Cara was intrigued by the concept of Thort’s Epiphany when her father introduced it to the family. Following the lead of the Holy Spirit, she began the work of fleshing out the characters and bringing life to the plot and story line. When the writing personalities of a teacher and a visionary collide, there is great challenge. One wants to teach an important lesson, and the other wants to tell a good story. Carey and Cara team up to create a book which does both.
