Claude Black has often been bi-vocational–maintenance worker and truck driver at a concrete products plant; college student and certified steel mill welder; church leader and college student; and college teacher and church leader. After earning a Ph.D. in historical studies and philosophy at Southern Illinois University, where he also studied biblical Greek three years and classical Latin two years, Dr. Black began a forty-two year career as a college professor, college administrator, and church leader. His doctoral essay surveyed the work of American theologian and social philosopher Reinhold Niebuhr. As a pastor, Black wrote for denominational publications, often published his sermons, and wrote editorials for local newspapers. Retiring after a twenty-five year tenure as a professor at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia, Black writes Christian devotional books, mystery novels, and newspaper editorials. Married to Alice Hedge in 1961, they enjoy the RV lifestyle, cruising, and spending time with their family. They have three married sons, six grandsons, and one great granddaughter. They live in Northeast Georgia some of the year.
