I wrote this work of fiction while I was in the Navy. After I got out I totaled my car and sheared my brain giving myself a coma and a concussion. Then I published it a little to soon. Where three ‘hunters’ embark on a fantastical, mind-bending journey across the land of Gehenna, where encounters with mystics, witches and monsters challenge their notions about the world and their existence within it. It’s a thought-provoking, strikingly unique novel that blends and blurs the lines between fantasy, theology, philosophy and meta-fiction into a truly original narrative. Exploring themes of existence, identity, reality and religion in a fantasy setting, it plays out like a hybrid of such diverse films as Lord of the Rings, Stranger than Fiction, The Princess Bride and The Fountain. While it may prove to be a challenge for a wider audience, those seeking intelligent, mind-bending stories will be greatly rewarded. Much of the humor comes from the Narrator, and as the story progresses and they become more involved with the narrative, the Narrator’s role becomes more prevalent. The shifting nature of the main characters, especially towards the end, ties in with the cyclical tale, and the Narrator also helps facilitate the audience’s understanding of the complex nature of the plot. While the story begins under the guise of a traditional fantasy, it gradually becomes more surreal, meta-fictional and allegorical, until finally revealing the true nature of its scope and deeper meaning. Difficult questions are raised, forcing viewers to think and draw their own conclusions.
