Gayle Jones grew up on a 120-acre farm deep in the East Texas piney woods of Vidor, Texas. The farm provided time and space to fuel the curiosity of a child. After rescuing a dog from next door, she began writing stories about a dog named Dallas. Those stories grew to be a favorite of friends who always asked for more. When her grandchildren went off to camp for a few weeks in the summer, they asked Gayle, also known as Gigi, to write to them. After one round of letters that included the standard hello, how are you, etc., she decided there had to be a more enjoyable way to correspond. Dallas Tales expanded and adopted a fictional narrative where Dallas and all her dog cousins went to a camp for dogs next door to the grandchildren’s camp. The stories were well received by the grandchildren for the next seven years and became the inspiration for her first book, Dallas Tales: Summer Adventures at Camp Meatloaf. Gayle is retired, has two adult sons, and resides in Texas. She is also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren and mom to a precious pup named Dallas—a Jack Russell mix who happens to be the star of Dallas Tales.
