Born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens in a Dominican household, gave Jennifer a contrasting view of the world. American traditions took a side while Hispanic culture reigned supreme. Growing up in a strict household, books became the escape necessary to survive. Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Historical Fiction became her windows to worlds unheard of within her family. Expanding her world knowledge pushed her to think in a more empathetic way that she felt was important to share with others. She wouldn’t find her footing until college when Facebook was young and gave a simple yet powerful prompt, “Jennifer is …” From there quotes and quips formed into nuggets of wisdom that transferred from screen to paper, collecting in a small notebook that grew into a collection of free-form poems. Over the years, as her curiosity for poetry grew, so did her range. Throughout her life experiences and traumas, she felt solace in poetry while going through depression, heartbreak, loss, and loneliness in a community where anxiety is viewed as a feeling rather than a mental issue. Through these experiences, she writes from a place of familiarity rather than a distant observer. Though she is a new author, her work has impacted the writing communities. She has been featured on The Well, The Dumping Grounds, the Author Show, 105 Publishing, and the ArtsXchange in Georgia. “THINGS” has hit Top 100 on Amazon in the categories of Poetry by Women, Love Poems, Women’s Poetry, and Top 100 on Kindle with a strong presence on the Top 100 list in Audible within her genre. In addition, THINGS is currently circulating within the Sarasota Country Library System. In September, she was invited by the Sarasota Contemporary Dance Studio to be their first Poet to perform in their In-Studio Series. This honor highlights the fluidity of her work. The work she creates is set to give a voice to those feelings that might not have the power of speech, now able to convey their sentiments. She hopes to bring strength and elegance to the raw elements inside us all.
