Leggett has authored numerous short stories that have been published in periodicals, literary journals, and serialized in Maine newspapers. His short story, The Canfield, was selected for publication in the 2016 Goose River Anthology, a collection of poems and stories from writers across the United States. In addition, he received Maine's Verdi L. Tripp award for fiction in 2015, and Maine's Richard F. Snow award in 2017 for Non-fiction. He is a member of the Maine Writers and Publishers Association and a contributing author to Florida’s Space Coast Writers Guild’s anthology, Love And Rockets. Leggett published his first novel, The Five-Cent Gang, in 2014. Like the kids in this coming of age story, Leggett grew up in upstate New York. The book returns the reader to the 1950s when the normally mischievous deeds of five sixth-graders escalate to a crime of terrible errors. With no solution in sight, they are forced to remain guardians of the secret or face horrible consequences. A young adult version of The Five-Cent Gang (Auggie and the Fat Man) is an adaptation for younger readers. His second novel, Diamonds In The Rough - also available as an audiobook - was published in December of 2016. The story takes readers on a suspenseful journey involving an apparently abandoned thirty-five foot sloop named Miss Demeanor. Where she came from and what secrets remain on board unfold as three men vie to claim her with none having any knowledge of her hidden cargo - a cargo that could prove to be fatal. Diamonds In The Rough was followed in 2020 with Dusting Off The Keys, a collection of short stories. His most recent novel, The Outhouse In Winter, was published in July of 2022 and involves Fourteen-year-old Anthony Romano who's life makes a U-turn when the complexities of living in New York City are replaced by the simplicities of a summer in northern Maine. Adults are replaced by peers and crime is replaced by friendships until unexpected circumstances pit his loyalty to a hired assassin against the love of a retired U.S. Marshal. Assassins, witness protection, and youthful antics combine to bring this story of intrigue, suspense, and coming of age, to a surprising conclusion. A unique, insightful coming-of-age story blended with a gripping crime/adventure novel. – Kirkus Reviews Leggett enjoys chatting with readers and can be reached at leggettbooks@gmail.com
