If the story of Jonah and the whale sounds a little fishy to you, don’t worry, it did to Kevin too. But like a lot of us Kevin had to learn that real life in relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit - doesn’t come with bubble wrap. In fact, it can get messy! If life or religion hasn’t knocked you around or prompted you to ask, “God why did this have to happen?” Kevin would tell you…you probably will. But here’s the good news: God doesn’t deny or minimize those hurtful events. In fact, He’s willing to swap those hurts with the smallest of seeds. He asks us to plant that seed in the hole of our hurt. Kevin doesn’t believe in coincidence anymore. Not after moving half way across the country to own a gymnastics gym. A sport he’d never competed in, nonetheless the business flourished and grew…almost too fast. Kevin was doing his best to keep up when mass shooting occurred a little more than a mile from his gym. After getting the all clear to hold classes there was a hard conversation with five-year-old ninja. That conversation would be the starting point of an entirely different journey. You see Kevin never planned on being a writer, moving to Minnesota, coaching women’s gymnastics or most of the adventures in this book. What he learned along the way is how to mine those nuggets of courage and hope. How to hold on to those even when life isn’t making sense. Trusting that eventually we’ll see how those events we thought disqualified us, actually equipped us as we were woven into the lives of others to help them.
