I grew up in Tolkien country in the English Midlands – his books being something I’ve never fully escaped from. As an incurable bookworm from the time I first learned to read, I devoured all sorts of books at speed while doing a variety of jobs until I finally broke free to become a mature student. Digging deep into the medieval world was absolute heaven for me. So it’s no surprise that when I started writing, it was in a quasi-medieval fantasy world, and subsequently, historical fiction. Then I discovered the possibility that I might (with a bit of luck) be able to make a living from this writing stuff. That was the point when I branched out into writing about modern day heroes who find they have a connection with the past. You’ll find that as well as the past, dogs crop up a lot in my books, and I’ve shared my life with a succession of rescued greyhounds and greyhound mixtures down the years – they are my family. I also love the wilder parts of the UK, and so mountains, forests, and islands crop up quite a lot, as does my passion for Scotland and its heritage. I hope you’ll join me in my alternate realities and worlds. All of my books are available as both eBooks and paperbacks.
