A Chicago native, Lemi-ola Erinkitola founded The Critical Thinking Child in response to her desire to support her own children as they navigated the education system. She saw a need to promote advanced cognitive and critical thinking skills across subject areas in order to inspire innovative, high-level thinking in young learners. Erinkitola is an author, international speaker, and award-winning educator. Her speaking engagements have taken her all over the country, where she’s covered topics such as gifted education, literacy, cyber safety, and critical thinking. In addition to The Critical Thinking Child, Erinkitola is the founder and executive director of the Children’s Reading Foundation of Chicago. Founded with the conviction that literacy and learning skills impact success throughout life, the Foundation promotes literacy in children of all ages and backgrounds. Rooted in community partnership, the Children’s Reading Foundation of Chicago offers tools, support, and free books to children in the greater Chicago area. Erinkitola was named an ambassador for By Kids for Kids, an organization designed to champion the innovation of young learners, as well as improve access to educational technology. She is also the recipient of the 2016 President Barack Obama Lifetime Achievement Award for Volunteer Services, a prestigious national award which recognizes a lifetime commitment to volunteerism. In 2020, Erinkitola was awarded a Global Forum for Education and Learning (GFEL) Educator of the Year award for her significant contributions to the education sector. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois, as well as a master’s degree from Rush University in Chicago. She has completed advanced training in critical thinking skills development through the University of Edinburgh . and is certified in SEL/Mindfulness Certification and Vedic Math.
