Lisa Schliff is a life-long writer of stories and poems and a teacher of ESL (English as a Second Language). She is a member of and volunteer for various organizations, including Results.org, Gold Country Writers, and the Peace Choir of Grass Valley. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she received a B.A. in Spanish from UCSB and an M.A. in English/ESL from San Francisco State University. She spent a year abroad in Barcelona, Spain attending the University of Barcelona and wrote several short stories about that year. Lisa settled in Grass Valley, California with her husband, Steve Schliff and their cat, Kayla. She is the newsletter editor of Gold Country Writers in Auburn and an active member of the Northern California Historical Novel Society. Several of her articles were published in a local anthology, “Nevada County’s Blues”, by Milan Vodicka. As an anti-poverty activist, she has had numerous letters to the editor published in the San Francisco Chronicle, The Union Newspaper, and The Contra Costa Times. Wearing her marketing director hat for her husband’s residential remodeling firm, she had several articles published in magazines. Lisa’s family history has piqued her curiosity and inspired her over the years, and ultimately drove her to write a novel about her ancestors. Her husband and two grown children, Adam and Rebecca, continue to motivate her to reach into the past to inform the future.
