Martha Leigh grew up in Cambridge, England and gained a degree In English Literature at York University. Shortly before this, she had decided that she wanted to be a doctor. Eventually she became a GP in East London, where she practised for thirty years. Her first book, 'Couldn't afford the eels': Memories of Wapping from 1900-1960, was based on interviews she conducted, some of which were with her patients. As soon as she retired, she seized her pen in order to write her family memoir, Invisible Ink. She lives with her husband and their three cats in Stoke Newington, London. Website www.marthaleigh.com
