Mary Buford Hitz is a Virginia free-lance journalist who has written for the Washington Post, the Richmond Times Dispatch and regional magazines. In 2000, the University Press of Virginia published her biography of her mother, "Never Ask Permission: Elisabeth Scott Bocock of Richmond." It has had three editions, and has just been issued in paperback. It is available digitally on the Nook and Kindle. Her latest book, a novel titled "Riding to Camille," about horseback riders in the Blue Ridge who encounter the remnants of hurricane Camille, the second of three catastrophic Category 5 hurricanes to make landfall in the United States during the 20th century.
