Richard served two tours during the Vietnam War and had a 28-year long career in law enforcement with the Kentucky State Police. Later he and his wife ran a horse boarding facility where they boarded horses as well as raised and trained Quarter Horses. After being diagnosed in 2008 with an incurable blood cancer from agent orange exposure, and being told he only had three years to live, he underwent a major life remake. This spurred him to become an author, a motivational speaker, and mentor to other cancer victims. In his books he shares his secrets to his longevity and gives hope to those who have had it stolen from unsensitive physicians.
