Sunny’s a Texas cowgirl they couldn’t fence in. When a political protestor in the Middle East puts a .357 Magnum to Sunny McMurtrey's face and begins to squeeze the trigger, her view of the world instantly changes. In "Don't Put a Cat on Your Head!" (Stories from a Global Cowgirl), Sunny shares what she did to save her life, and how we can use what she did that day to stop the range wars that are tearing our country and the world apart today. Practice what Sunny preaches in this "all meat, no gristle" book of short stories about our common humanity, and we—people, governments, and nations—will be able to settle most any squabble with anyone, no matter how petty, deep, or rancid the difference. Since that moment in Egypt, Sunny has travelled America and the world as a global cowgirl collecting stories while working as a Emmy-nominated television producer and interviewer, private investigator, and voice coach. Sunny says she inherited her passion for collecting and telling stories from her family—migrant workers in the Texas oilfields. Sunny brings her readers stories from the hot sands of Baghdad and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon to Havana, Cuba, where they embrace an exuberance for old American cars and progressive musicians. She also has layovers in places like Egypt, Oman, Romania, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Germany, Scotland, and England. Sunny’s road trips also bring readers stories about the folks who call America home. Where the skies are spacious, the fields amber, the mountains purple, and the shores shining. It was cowgirl grit that took Sunny to London to earn an advanced degree in voice coaching from the internationally renowned London drama school, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Sunny says this may be her proudest achievement because public speaking and being in front of an audience or on-camera terrified her. Despite that, and without a whiff of acting experience, Sunny auditioned and was given one of three spots available to Americans in Central’s voice coaching program. And Sunny did this when she was old enough to be called “granny” by most of the students in the school. Sunny credits a “cowgirl attitude” that refuses to be daunted by fear for giving her the guts to take on this challenge. While Sunny has many interests, she has no one special hobby. However, she is very active in finding homes for senior pets—cats, dogs, fish, birds. Her last three pet residents came to live with Sunny when they were at least 100 years old in human years. Currently, Sunny is working on the next book in her Stories from a Global Cowgirl series and learning to play the Native American flute. Right now, she lives in Frederick, Maryland, but who knows where her boots will take her next.
