Susan Smith is an award-winning and lifelong writer who has published hundreds of magazine articles and taught writing classes. Writing is her passion, and she started early, writing a book in fifth grade and a neighborhood newspaper at age 10. She studied journalism in school and worked to publish the student newspaper and yearbook. Over the years, she has contributed to many magazines, specializing in interviews. She also shared her talents by teaching writing, hosting online workshops and writers' groups, and creating a handbook for beginning a memoir. She is also a wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend to many. Her careers include being a banker, jewelry designer, and interior designer. Susan is a heart attack survivor and a Mayo Clinic-trained women's heart health advocate. When not writing, speaking, and sharing her story, she lives with her husband of 20 years, Tomas. They reside in Tucson, Arizona, and spend the summer months in Seaside, Oregon. She enjoys reading, writing, nature, and studying old family histories, saying, "There are so many fascinating stories in our past." She aims to spread the heart health message to other women with a warning: "Don't do what I did. Know the symptoms. Know your body. And, slow down. Remember, you can't do anything if you're dead."
