Tanya J. Peterson holds a Master of Science degree in counseling, is credentialed by the National Board of Certified Counselors, and is a Diplomate of the American Institute of Stress. She is the author of 10 self-help books and regular contributor to a variety of mental health websites including Choosing Therapy and HealthyPlace. Formerly a teacher and school counselor, Peterson has also created a mental health course (Mindful Brain, Flexible Body: Wiggle Your Way Out of Your Worries and into Your Life) based on research-based practices like mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, yoga, and health principles to help kids developed the skills needed to deal positively with worries, stress, and other problems. It is available on the online/homeschool platform Lernsys. Peterson gives presentations and webinars, including a webinar for the American Institute of Stress. she has been a guest on numerous podcasts and other interview shows, such as the Empowered Living talk show on Facebook, the American Institute of Stress’s Finding Contentment podcast, and many more. She’d been featured twice in Authority Magazine regarding developing healthy habits for wellbeing and leveraging the power of gratitude for wellness. She’s been quoted as an expert in a variety of online articles including WebMD, Verywell mind, Everyday Health, and Well + Good. Her work centers on helping people understand and build mindfulness skills in order to live fully in each moment rather than stuck in their thoughts and feelings about problematic situations. Also, Peterson is an award-winning novelist. Her mental-health-themed novels depict what life is like for people living with mental health challenges and for those who love them.
