Tracy Grogan has authored both non-fiction and fiction works. In non-fiction, he is the commentator for Venom, Vanity, and Victim Mentality, a compilation of emails from the campaign of Donald J. Trump, covering the campaigns of 2016, 2020, and 2024. In fiction, he is the author of the Divemaster Ricky series of mystery/thrillers. In creating Ricky Yamamoto, the reluctant protagonist of FLOTSAM, DERELICT, and JETSAM, Tracy has drawn upon his travels through Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia--including Egypt, South Africa, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Borneo, Micronesia and a half dozen other South Pacific dive destinations. During those voyages, he has spent hundreds of days in the company of quirky, passionate, funny, bull-headed expats. Among them were a number of kick-ass women who more than held their own in the testosterone-fueled environment of non-stop diving. They live in a small community where they are subjected to challenges of their skills, unwanted advances, and frequent stereotyping. If they show weakness, they are marginalized. So they have to be better than their male counterparts, below and above the ocean surface. In addition to all of this, their unique take on life, and the marine environment in particular, provided a perfect lens to view the collision of modern civilization with noble and more traditional cultures. Two of Tracy’s advanced certifications were awarded after training and testing by women divemasters. Some of his favorite dives and post-dive conversations were with women. His best dive buddy is a woman. It seemed only right that his novels highlight these great contributors. Tracy is originally from Berkeley, California, but now resides with his dive buddy Dana in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
