Viorica Marian is a psycholinguist and the Sundin Endowed Professor at Northwestern University, where she directs the Bilingualism and Psycholinguistics Laboratory. Professor Marian studies the interaction between mind and language, especially in people who know two or more languages. She is past Chair of the National Institutes of Health Study Section on Language and Communication and of the Northwestern University Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Professor Marian is the recipient of the American Association for the Advancement of Science John P. McGovern Award in the Behavioral Sciences, the Psychonomic Society Mid-Career Award, the University of Alaska Anchorage Alumni of Achievement Award, and the Clarence Simon Award for Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring. She is the author of the popular science book THE POWER OF LANGUAGE, translated into many languages around the world.
