Virginia serves as an Associate Professor of Humanities for Anna Maria College in Massachusetts. She has worked for almost 5 decades teaching students from pre-school to grad school, Appalachia to Inner Mongolia, ASL to drama, and research to creative writing. Virginia has been writing since childhood and has published articles in educational journals. In 2008, she wrote Wounded Dove. In 2023, her memoir of childhood trauma, Grace Interlaced, presented the healing process for her and her family. Though grief, guilt, anger, and fear twist and tangle through the memoir, there is also courage, hope, love, grace, and forgiveness. In 2024, the second edition of Wounded Dove (first edition 2008)appeared with some text revisions and newly added illustrations and photos. The main character became crippled by polio in the epidemic in Worcester, MA in the early 1900s. No ideas of accessibility for physical challenges existed then. While many polio sufferers gave up on a full life, the protagonist in Wounded Dove did not. Although she conquered many restrictions and prejudice, her hopes for love drifted into danger. Virginia writes each day, spends time with family and friends, teaches, and travels. Currently, she is working on a fiction trilogy set in Midcoast Maine and a nonfiction series in remote areas of China where she worked with local teachers of English for eight different years spanning 2004-2017.
