Acerca de esta escucha
Fanny Hill, one of the most popular novels of the 18th century, traces the rise of its heroine from prostitution to middle-class respectability. Condemned in its own time on grounds of indecency, the book was the subject of several law suits until as recently as the 1960s. For today's listener, the work holds as much fascination as when it was first published, not only as the foremost example of English erotic fiction, but as a literary classic in its own right.

Oscar Wilde's first play confronts the hypocrisy of public "morality" compared with genuine, private kindness. The reasons for its continued popularity are not difficult to identify: the play's witty dialogue contains many of Wilde's most quoted aphorisms, its stylish setting provides opportunities for elegant presentation, and its cast of memorable characters play out a story which is genuinely moving. This new audio production brings together a full cast worthy of Wilde's creative genius.

Don Quixote, the world's first novel and by far the best-known book in Spanish literature, was originally intended by Cervantes as a satire on traditional popular ballads, yet he also parodied the romances of chivalry. By happy coincidence he produced one of the most entertaining adventure stories of all time and, in Don Quixote and his faithful squire, Sancho Panza, two of the greatest characters in fiction.

Historia
The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759) was the first major text by Adam Smith who, seven years later, was to publish what was to become one of the major economic classics, The Wealth of Nations (1776). However, Smith regarded The Theory of Moral Sentiments as his most important work because in it he identified the profound human instinct to act not necessarily in self-interest but through, as he phrased it, a ‘mutual sympathy of sentiments’.

Riotous, sexy and groundbreaking, Henry Fielding's Joseph Andrews: The History of the Adventures of Joseph Andrews and His Friend Mr. Abraham Adams, published in 1742, was one of the first English novels. Fielding was melding and parodying the two major forces battling for control of the fiction market at the time - the mock heroic, neoclassical tradition as practiced by Pope and Swift and the popular and populist fiction of the new novelists such as Defoe and Richardson.

Originally published in 1778, Evelina is Frances Burney's first and most beloved novel. It was a landmark in the development of the novel of manners and went on to influence such enduringly popular authors as Jane Austen. By turns hilarious and grim, witty and lyrical, the story follows young Evelina as she leaves the seclusion of her country home and enters into late eighteenth-century London society - both its pleasures and its dangers. Life in eighteenth-century England is vividly rendered as Evelina is educated in the ways of the world and, eventually, love.

Dr. Johnson may have been correct in saying that “Rousseau was a very bad man,” but none can argue that his ideas are among the most influential in all of world history. It was Rousseau, the father of the romantic movement, who was responsible for introducing at least two modern day thoughts that pervade academia. The Confessions is Rousseau’s landmark autobiography. Both brilliant and flawed, it is nonetheless beautifully written and remains one of the most moving human documents in all of literature.

Reseñas editoriales
Scandalous when it came out in 1748 after being written from prison by John Cleland, Fanny Hill was almost immediately banned for obscenity, and was only available "underground" for centuries before finally being published legitimately in 1963. It still titillates even today.
The highly charged, erotic novel is told as a series of letters from prostitute Fanny Hill, that describe her vivid sexual encounters in and around London. The 350 years after its publication has done nothing to damper the steamy heat this arousing drama generates. Narrated elegantly with subtle sensuality by Emma Fielding.

So what would Al Gore choose if he had a book club? Gore named Stendhal's The Red and the Black, a 19th century classic chock full of adultery, betrayal, and moral vacuity, as his favorite book on a recent broadcast of Oprah. It's a bit shocking of a choice, given his wife and running mate's position on clean, wholesome literature. Listen and decide for yourself the merit of this presidential pick.

A classic, and still exciting
This classic of erotica is still as exciting a read as ever. The tale of women working in a high class victorian bordello, the characters tells tales of varied sexual adventures. Told in the first person, the heroine is a good narator, and her own story is both titilating and sophisiticated. Contains storys that include mild S&M, deflowering virgins and an outdoor orgy.

An intriguing Story
An incredibly fascinating story of a young innocent woman, Fanny Hill, making her way to London after the death of her parents. She falls in love with Charles and through a twist of fate ends up losing him. From then on, she is taken advantage of, and after a brief period of distress, Fanny finds herself taking to her new-found role as a purchased mistress in order to make ends meet and discovers the power of her sexuality.
I believe this book would be considered as the fifty shades of grey of the past.
It is worth a read or a listen!!!!

Great book
Victorian so it is not as hot and rough as I would prefer but it is still steamy enough for me to listen many times over. Great bdsm and punishments along with good sex scenes.
