Historia
Join Gordon Alexander in Nepal as he drags his "heavy ass" over the Himalayas in this hilarious, adventure-soaked account of the Three Passes Trek, culminating in a visit to Everest Base Camp. Together with guide Subash and porter Nima, Gordon tackles high passes in excess of 5,400 meters (17,700 feet) and explains how high altitude affects a mildly overweight road builder from sea level in the tropics. Each part of the journey brings new challenges, including sub-freezing temperatures, almost falling into a crevasse, and alarmingly warm beer.

Unlike Any Other Nepal Trekking Story
Revisado: 11-16-24
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. It is a well-crafted story that is excellently narrated and recorded.
One aspect that resonated with me was the uniquely Australian humor woven throughout. As an Australian myself, I may have found it particularly enjoyable for that reason. The author’s wit adds a distinctive touch, offering both laughs and moments of reflection.
The narrative offers rich insights into Nepal and the intricacies of trekking, while also providing a fun crash course in Aussie expressions and cultural nuances.
The story skillfully transitions between joy and humor to moments of tragedy and sadness, creating an engaging emotional journey. The author also vividly describes the dangers of ascending too quickly, highlighting the real risks involved.
At times, there was perhaps a bit too much detail about the quality of the food, although the anecdote about the Snickers bars was a humorous and memorable touch.
Overall, Nepali Flat is an engaging, informative, and distinctly Australian take on the adventure memoir genre.

I Never Expected To Be So Moved By This Story
Revisado: 06-25-24
This engrossing narrative is a clever combination of how past struggles help to understand and heal present realities.
The author weaves a powerful love story between a young girl tortured by school racism and her gentle and wise grandfather who suffered torment during the Korean War.
Like the Kite Runner, Finding Junie Kim has carved an emotional place in my heart; made deeper by an excellent narration. The audiobook is well produced; particularly considering the pronunciation of many Korean words.
I will remember this story forever. It is a work of fiction with a ring of truth and authenticity. I learned a lot.

Its all true and written from real experience
Revisado: 05-02-24
I’ve lived in Thailand since 2014. And I have to agree 100% with the sentiments of this author. He lays his soul bare and openly admits to his mistakes but grateful for the redemption that Thailand has bought him.
I feel pretty much the same way but I haven’t got the deep wounds or scars to heal. It’s just that I come from a busy society that is obsessed with work. I have gained health and happiness here in Thailand that I doubt I could find in my country of birth.
Amazingly, the narration is computer generated. But you’d never know it - apart from the totally incorrect pronunciation of Thai Names. That’s why I gave the performance 4 stars.
But this book will serve as an excellent introduction to the vibe of Thailand. It’s rare to find such intelligent observation written so beautifully with the warm heart and unbounded gratefulness.

False pretences

The accompanying PDF has been withdrawn and is now not available.
It is mentioned during the recording and is credited in the Reviews as being “very useful;” which I assume it would be - as it contains the scripts for recording your own meditations.
Interestingly, there is zero information about the author or narrators;
but as far as I can hear, this recording has simply been repackaged and rebranded from 2 other audible books about Silva; namely Silva UltraMind's Intuitive Guidance System for Business and Silva Ultramind Systems Persuasive Thoughts with the same narrator using a very dramatic style.
So just chose one book from the above and you get the same stuff - because the information is very good.

Revisado: 03-31-18
The skill and artistry of the narration kept me engaged right through to the end of this long book. I doubt whether I would have the tenacity to read it myself, but with the stunningly talented Humphrey Bower at the helm, I didn’t want this to end. Luckily, Audible has many books narrated by him, so I am already choosing my next one.

Self-talk classic sold short
Revisado: 05-23-11
Ive read this book at least 6 times over 20 years. I adore it. The contents mean a lot to me - because they have improved my life in so many ways. My hopes were very high for this absolute classic of what to say when you self-talk. Maybe I was expecting too much - because ultimately, I was disappointed. I found the narrator Jason McCoy did not understand what he was reading. Even though he is an experienced speaker, he in-correctly pronounced many names and spoke far too rapidly; even nervously. I feel that this information needs far more CARE with its contents. There was no love in Jason's voice. He just sounded as though he wanted to get the whole exercise over and done as soon as possible.

Sublime. The reading of this is a work of art.
Revisado: 05-23-11
Now I've listened to many recordings in my life; I've even made a few successful ones myself. But nothing comes close to the brilliance of Lou Diamond Philips awesome interpretation of this classic novel. The effortless way he swings between accents, the rhythm and flow, the pause and effect; it is truly one of the finest audio books on the market. Anyone interested in voice-over technique could use this as a standard 'text'. And this is a good example why Audible should only stick with trained actors to read their fiction novels.
