Historia
Flannery O’Connor’s astonishing and haunting first novel is a classic of 20th-century literature. It is the story of Hazel Motes, a 22-year-old caught in an unending struggle against his innate, desperate faith. He falls under the spell of a “blind” street preacher named Asa Hawks and his degenerate fifteen-year-old daughter. In an ironic, malicious gesture of his own non-faith, and to prove himself a greater cynic than Hawks, Hazel founds The Church of God Without Christ but is still thwarted in his efforts to lose God.

MFO captures the insanity of existence. This is a true American literary gem from one of our not-as-mainstream-heralded literary 🦸♀️ heroines. I enjoyed Balky's consistent voices and characters, and clarity of delivery. I will look for more books narrated by Mr Pinchot.

Prose, plot and powerful performance
Revisado: 03-05-21
Le Guin was an artist who wrote 📚- If you just want a simple story told with just enough skill to mystify you without overwhelming the fantasy palate with unnecessary elements, Le Guin's first three Earthsea book is for you. Especially The Farthest Shore, which is more "mature" than the first two and enriched with gorgeous passages. Her style is brilliant. The Narrator KHS was a bit too whispery for the Archmage at times, which is not so bad as to send it back but buyer beware, you might turn it up to hear Ged only to cringe at Aaron's childish voice. Narrator could improve in terms of dynamics but he has an awesome voice perfect for storytelling 👏🏻

A seminal and controversial figure in the history of political thought and public relations, Edward Bernays pioneered the scientific technique of shaping and manipulating public opinion, which he famously dubbed the "engineering of consent". During World War I, he was an integral part of the US Committee on Public Information, or CPI, a powerful propaganda apparatus that was mobilized to package, advertise, and sell the war to the American people as one that would "Make the World Safe for Democracy".

America is hopelessly divided, but more worryingly, the ideas and “mystic chords of memory” that rest at the cornerstone of our civilization and bind the generations are being severed, attacked, and forgotten. The left has set out to shatter these bonds with a war on American history - the fundamental concepts, institutions, and icons that make our country what it is. And we have failed to protect our history, allowing Hollywood, educators, and the media to rewrite the story of America. We have ignored the invaluable lessons of our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.

the Spaniards have a saying "quien no llora no mama" (whoever fails to cry also fails to get the teet)- a democratic society can only exist with education and open dialogue, listening not only to whoever cries and complains the loudest but everyone- especially historians. this is a well rendered example of an articulate and well reasoned defense of our historical figures- don't erase them!!! learn to love them as much as you love your family because they are, after all, humans with virtues and vices, figures to be understood in the context of their times and also on the merits of their actions. bravo to Mr Stepman-

cliffhangers and another disappointment from the narrator
Revisado: 09-14-20
no spoilers... but once again the portfolio of characters by Dotrice whittled his 5+ star performance from the first books down to a paltry 1- - he had been the reason why i listened, now it's why i couldn't wait to get done - and also the cause of confusion (a listener gets used to a voice just like a face!!!!)

Richard Nixon opens with young navy lieutenant "Nick" Nixon returning from the Pacific and setting his cap at Congress, an idealistic dreamer seeking to build a better world. Yet amid the turns of that now legendary 1946 campaign, Nixon's finer attributes quickly gave way to unapologetic ruthlessness. It is a stunning overture to John A. Farrell's magisterial portrait of a man who embodied postwar American cynicism.

Revisado: 02-15-16
Dabbling in psychoanalysis and literary interpretation, this is a must read for anyone interested in understanding (not interpreting) dreams and symbols, and includes a broad explanation of terms and thoughtful insight into the powerful wisdom of the world of the unconscious mind. The closing chapter on a Kafka masterpiece is worth the many hours of listening to this narrator (who could have also played Doug in the animated film 'Up')- the only drawback was that this narrator sounded like Alan Alda without the dynamic spark that would have made this reading stand out: a great attempt nevertheless
