Cannot recommend this book
Revisado: 09-05-22
Completely lacking in the humor, cohesion & empathy of the other books in this series. Filled with gratuitous gore. Judging from his lack of inflection or emotion, the narrator may have had a pre frontal lobotomy.

Compelling from the outset
Revisado: 10-23-21
When my sister recommended this book, she warned me it looked like a bodice ripper, but said not to be fooled, that it was excellent. I'm glad I listened to her because this book has it all. Murder, conspiracy, history, betrayal, insanity, it's all here, wrapped in a beautiful narration by Emma Gregory. I just purchased the next two in the series and cannot wait to listen to them. Alexandra Walsh has woven together fact with fiction and told the tale so cleverly one finds it difficult to stop. Just wonderful.
As a long time Audible listener, I rarely write reviews but this book is so good!

The sleepy, eastern Washington wheat town of Antioch has become a gateway for the supernatural - from sightings of angels and a weeping crucifix to a self-proclaimed prophet with an astounding message. The national media and the curious all flock to the little town - a great boon for local business but not for Travis Jordan.

Historia
When a local man, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, goes missing, his parents have good reason to be concerned. Emily Willows is a friend of the family and says that she knows just the person to find him - and, as Summer Lane soon points out, the fact that this also fits in with Emily's plan to set up her very own detective agency is surely just a fortuitous coincidence.

I like this author, this seriess and most everything about it except the unlikelyhood of the situations. If you are able to look past this, you will love the Lane books. Narration by Hanrietta Meire is spot on!

Historia
Criminologist Martin Knight lives a gilded life and is a thorn in the side of the police. But then his wife, Liz, goes missing. There is no good explanation and no sign of Martin.... To make things worse, Liz is the ex-girlfriend of DCI Craig Gillard who is drawn into the investigation. Is it just a missing person or something worse? And what relevance do the events around the shocking Girl F case, so taken up by Knight, have to do with the present? The truth is darker than you could ever have imagined.

Oh holy crap, this book wouldn't end!
Revisado: 02-10-20
Plodding, boring, endless. This book went on forever. Not even the excellent narration could save it. Unfortunately, a decent story is bogged down by cumbersome, unnecessary dialog and length.

Interesting but not as compelling as the other books. As always, battle scenes are well choreographed & the author continues to develop the story, characters & relationships skillfully.

Good Book, Rotten Reader
Revisado: 05-02-19
This story is actually quite good, compelling in fact. But the reader was so bad, it was difficult to get through the book. He emphasized every sentence, so the syntax was consistently off. Very distracting, really detracted from the listening experience.

Mathew Corbett is hard to kill
Revisado: 04-08-19
In this fifth installment of the Mathew Corbett series, Robert McCammon hits the nail on the head yet again. The story is good, if somewhat unlikely in a couple of spots, but that isn't enough to dissuade this reader from enjoying the book immensely. The reader is also very good. Worth a listen.
