Running for President?

Mark’s book is just another form of media. It was great to learn of more than 50 yrs of behind the scenes running of the DOD. My white Father was proud the serve under General Greene who was black. Hopefully the future is safer because of his commitment to the Constitution!

Really enjoyed this book

This is the 5th or 6th book I have listened to about the trump presidency. This was the most in-depth of all of them. I believe after listening to this that Esper is a man of integrity. I believe he had the best interest of the country in mind. There were times the book went into the minutiae of the government and that gets tedious but it is worth wading through to get to the information on the other side. Too bad he was in his position under such difficult times as he probably could have accomplished more had things been different.

Securing What We Hold Dear

Narrator excellent. Gallant patriots defended our Constitution in the midst of perhaps the most threatening time in our history. No need to name call, simply the reality in force.

Excellent book

Mr.Esper gives a balanced but frightening inside look at the DOD and Trump’s attempts to use it against its’ own citizenry. You will walk away from this book thanking G-d that people had the moral courage to say no to a tyrant.

What an honor!

This is the best book I have listened to on the Audible program.
We as a nation should be proud of the service offered by Mark Esper and the entire military staff, enlisted and civilian contractors protecting our republic.

Please take the time to listen to this book and I will guaranty you will not regret it.

Interesting Look From the Inside

Is the book a bit long? - in my opinion, YES. Some will think so others will not. But, there is an important story told in this book. Very believable account of the process at the top within our military and why it is so important to keep the military separate of political whims from either party. Esper's accounting of Trump seems very factual without hype. He spotlights the good and the bad and is completely believable. I am a registered republican and long for the days of country over party - clearly he served under an administration that did not share that view, I would urge fellow republicans to read this - definitely an eye opener!

Must-read for anyone in government

Esper embodies the best attributes of public servants: integrity, dedication, professionalism, competence, clarity and personal courage in upholding his oath to the consitiution. His story of navigating the political morass of the Trump administration is both inspiring and shocking. Esper should be as appreciated for what he prevented as what he accomplished over his brief but consequential tenure. One wonders what would have happened if a less exemplary individual had been in place at that moment in history. One wonders what he could have accomplished under a different commander in chief.
