mispronounced words

it's pronounced garotte not Garrett.
it's a really distracting mistake that really took me out of the story

kind of mediocre

it was very dry and predictable and there was no humor I knew where it was going before it it happened there was no surprise it was just blah

Good easy listen

Narrator was excellent and the book was well written. I would recommend for any rpg-lit fan.

a bit meh

there seemed to be a good bit of continuity errors. one scene, the motivation is x, then next it's y. I typically always give fives, but the main is lacking, and it is written on the rails.

Easy Listening

The storyline is well though out and it's easy to listen for for my young niece as well. I found myself enthroned throughout the entire series due to all the voice actors giving it their personal touches.

Great narration. MC drove me nuts at the end.

loved the narrator he did a great job. Only issue I had was really with the MC making stupid decisions. In the beginning I didn't mind it because I felt he was figuring this out. At the end though he was still making decisions like that and I didn't feel he had any growth with that aspect of himself. There were several times in the 2nd and 3rd books where I just stopped listening and take a break because I was so frustrated at the MC for making the same mistakes. It would have been one thing if at some point he recognized the mistakes he made and realized that he kept making the same/similar mistakes and you could see he was trying to get better but no. Not even a hit of recognition let alone progress to not making it again.

Did not enjoy.

Overall, this seems like a YA series in that no-one seems very deep. As a LitRPG fan the spattering of numbers/stats/damage was too little to justify their inclusion. In my opinion, the author might've been better served to have made this a "normal" fantasy series. Overall the Luck mechanic heavily employed in the 1st book made me feel like there weren't any stakes for Hal. How many times can H & K banter about "just trust me" "you don't have a plan" etc. For me it was a drag to finish the series.

Book 1) Luck mechanic got tired.
Book 2) I enjoyed much more. Felt a little grittier.
Book 3) I enjoyed more than book 1. Wish it didn't feel so rushed. H mastering the magics with so little effort/growth just made the Mary Sue apsect worse. I think for me this book gave me hope for the author if he could have expanded his world or the trials to learn the magics.

I do not think I will ready anymore of this series...unless there is another good sale. I would recommend to a middle schooler within whom i was trying to bolster a desire to ready fantasy.

Excellent combination of Earth and Fantasy

Buy this. It does not have some traditional LitRPG plot devices but it makes up for those missing devices with creativity and coherence of story through the three books included.

An enjoyable story

I like the overall story and most characters. the ending is also one of the better ones in series I've heard. However, the MC is very frustrating at times. Making the same mistakes even after it cost him multiple times.
Also dislike the transition between books where he gains confidence and seems to stand up for himself, just to revert in the next book and start doubting himself again and again. Overall though it was a good listen while working. would recommend

I just love books that captured my mind eye. Like being in this world, adventure, battles well corograph in perfect movie in my mind. looking forward to listening to next book.
