Acerca de esta escucha

The idea that American conservatism is identical to “classical” liberalism—widely held since the 1960s—is seriously mistaken.

The award-winning political theorist Yoram Hazony argues that the best hope for Western democracy is a return to the empiricist, religious, and nationalist traditions of America and Britain—the conservative traditions that brought greatness to the English-speaking nations and became the model for national freedom for the entire world.

Conservatism: A Rediscovery explains how Anglo-American conservatism became a distinctive alternative to divine-right monarchy, Puritan theocracy, and liberal revolution. After tracing the tradition from the Wars of the Roses to Burke and across the Atlantic to the American Federalists and Lincoln, Hazony describes the rise and fall of Enlightenment liberalism after World War II and the present-day debates between neoconservatives and national conservatives over how to respond to liberalism and the woke left.

Going where no political thinker has gone in decades, Hazony provides a fresh theoretical foundation for conservatism. Rejecting the liberalism of Hayek, Strauss, and the “fusionists” of the 1960s, and drawing on decades of personal experience in the conservative movement, he argues that a revival of authentic Anglo-American conservatism is possible in the twenty-first century.

Live a conservative life

Excellent review of historical conservatism with application to the rise post war liberalism and effects on our nation. The author provides a framework based on his own life and these principles to live a conservstive life for the good of the nation, one’s family and one’s self and for posterity. This is contrasted to the modern rise of the self, casting off moral law and tradition in a never-ceasing cycle of self-serving rebellion that he sees as ultimately destructive. I dont agree with everything he posits but this was well-argued and is a worthy read.

Thought provoking

The author has done an incredible job in highlighting an alternative perspective, making for a very fun although somewhat humbling read. Some ideas I think will need some further, but that only underscores his point; that conservatives believe in incremental and empirical improvements to their ideas

Should be required reading for all college students.

This book should be required reading of all US college students. It is an eloquent counterpoint to the dominant liberal ideology espoused in modern universities and serves as a forceful argument against nihilism.

Excellent articulation of conservatism!

Even if you think you know about conservatism, you have to listen to this book. The in-depth history and intellectual understanding is explained so well. This is the best book on Conservative Democracy ever. The way a government should run, starts from the home and this book helps you realize why.

OK

Book was a little too kind to pro-war neo-cons like Irving Krystal (Sp?) and George Will.

Practical solution for today's chaos

The author clearly states the values, purpose and execution of Conservativism. It is not about a political stance, it is about preserving what allows individuals and societies to thrive & prosper long term. I highly recommend for all to listen.

Needed perspective

A great overview on the most important social forces facing us today. An important book for those seeking the truth on how society got to this point.

Good overview of conservative thought and history

This gives a great overview of Conservative thought; the history, the argument for it, and how it differs from classical liberalism. I would recommend it to someone who is progressive or libertarian politically that wants to understand a conservative. But really, it is written to conservatives, who have no idea about their own traditions and where they came from.

Cogent history & diagnosis of our country’s malaise

Well organized review of the history of conservatism in the Anglo-American tradition. Well articulated argument of how liberalism post WWII derailed the founder’s intent and why Cultural Marxism is displacing both in America today.
