When I first started practicing, I saw that individuals with strong communication skills in casual settings might become quite different when interacting with spouses or relatives. People behaved somewhat differently when they were angry than when they were at ease. Emotionally reactive people are unable to use communication skills. Emotional reactivity (ER) impairs a person's ability to reason and behave sensibly. This is especially true when someone is dealing with someone they love and you both have a history of emotional sensitivity.
Overcoming emotional reactivity is the primary need for emotional mastery. You should think of this book as a guide, with the main goal being to help you understand your emotions and learn how to control them so they become a source of inspiration rather than a barrier to your initiative and creativity.
