Celebrate Wise Mature Women
“Skip the midlife crisis and embrace the joys of aging with this “lighthearted manual on how to become a juicy and wise old woman”. —Isabelle Allende, recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
#1 Bestseller in Adulthood & Aging and Mysticism
Dr. Bolen is celebrated by some of the most acclaimed women of the twentieth century like Isabel Allende, Gloria Steinem, and Alice Walker. In her book, Crones Don't Whine, she offers mature women thirteen qualities to cultivate personal growth during their crone years.
What is a crone? Life after forty doesn’t end. So why do most women treat it like it does? Put aside your midlife crisis and embrace the aging process with Crones Don't Whine. They're juicy and they trust their own instincts. Meditating, not groveling, and choosing the path with heart, crones are fierce about what matters to them. They speak the truth with compassion. They listen to their bodies, reinvent themselves, and savor the good in their lives.
Grow and behold. Forget about getting old, aging gracefully is all about perspective. As Dr. Bolen explains, crone years are "growing" years in women’s lives. In this new stage, women can finally devote their time, energy, and creativity to what really matters to them.
Thirteen essays and practices. Featuring thirteen brief essays and small practices, this lighthearted book gives listeners resources to turn to again and again.

Western folklore and mythology are rife with brilliantly creative, fulfilled, feisty, and furious role models for aging women, despite our culture's focus on youthfulness. In her exciting new book, mythologist and psychologist Sharon Blackie explores these archetypes, presenting them in a way sure to appeal to contemporary women. Drawing inspiration from these examples, women can reclaim midlife as a liberating, alchemical moment rich with possibility and their elder years as a path to dynamic power.

Physician and Jungian analyst Jean Shinoda Bolen takes us to the horizon of our understanding about the special wisdom that comes to women after menopause in The Wise-Woman Archetype. Join the best-selling author of Goddesses in Everywoman as she plows ancient ground to uncover the roots of the sacred wise woman/crone archetype. Early societies, Bolen teaches, looked at menopause as a "withholding of the blood", not to make a child, as in youth, but to make wisdom.

To the ancients, the goddess Hekate symbolized the inner journey back to the soul. Indeed, ancient philosophers identified her as Anima Mundi, the "soul of the world." As such, she connects many archetypes associated with the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. From her role as protector of roadways to her power as the bringer of death, she offers us keys for healing. Incorporating her personal experiences with those of her students, Cyndi Brannen weaves a supporting circle around the listener as they start their path towards soulful living, culminating in rebirth.

Marion Woodman believes that centuries of “patriarchal thinking” have stripped the soul from our inner and outer lives and placed the world in grave danger. In talks, workshops, and BodySoul Rhythms intensives in Canada, the United States, and Europe, she has urged us to engage with the unconscious energy that erupts beneath the surface of our best intentions, sending us where we may not want to go. In this lecture and through case studies, dreams, and myths, the Jungian analyst explores the hidden causes of compulsion in the lives of men and women.

A gospel, as ancient and authentic as any of the gospels that the Christian bible contains, was buried deep in the Egyptian desert after an edict was sent out in the 4th century to have all copies of it destroyed. Fortunately, some rebel monks were wise enough to refuse - and thanks to their disobedience and spiritual bravery, we have several manuscripts of the only gospel that was written in the name of a woman: The Gospel of Mary Magdalene.

As much as we might try to resist, endings happen in every moment—the end of a breath, the end of a day, the end of a relationship, and ultimately the end of life. And accompanying each ending is a beginning, though it may be unclear what the beginning holds. In How We Live Is How We Die, Pema Chödrön shares her wisdom for working with this flow of life—learning to live with ease, joy, and compassion through uncertainty, embracing new beginnings, and ultimately preparing for death with curiosity and openness rather than fear.

Enchantment. By Dr. Sharon Blackie’s definition, a vivid sense of belongingness to a rich and many-layered world, a profound and whole-hearted participation in the adventure of life. Enchantment is a natural, spontaneous human tendency - one we possess as children, but lose, through social and cultural pressures, as we grow older. It is an attitude of mind which can be cultivated: the enchanted life is possible for anyone. It is intuitive, embraces wonder, and fully engages the mythic imagination - but it is also deeply embodied in ecology, grounded in place and community.

Meh
It was just ok. It didn’t hold any depth to it. There wasn’t anything there to help with the being an elder, and having to navigate not only another “new” stage of life, but possibly the the one we realize we navigate alone.
I was disappointed, but maybe life itself is the only teacher/guide through this lad 1/3.
