Amazing depiction of the Death Korps, but a soul wrenching ending.

I loved how this book depicted the brutality of the Death Korps, especially compared to the necrons. That being said the ending is soul wrenching but fitting to the warhammer universe,

Higher-Grade 40k

Second review. 110-120th 40k audio novel. (Road-warrior occupation, eff off). Die-hard ADB and Chris W supporter. Won't distract from this to discuss others.

Got a flash of something quite good here, having bought this without really checking the author. Halfway through and looked him up as someone to queue up next in the playlist, turns out he did Krieg (which was fun) but otherwise just some short story stuff. Nobody tell GW, I think they might've hired another author.

Grim darkness.

Probably the epitome of the grim darkness of Warhammer. Listeners beware: it gets sad at the end.

Aren’t we all just dead men walking?

This is a book about methodical, slow, immovable, cold-blooded, calculating force fighting versus necrons. The Death Korps are cold, nihilistic and utterly alien and this book ends up being insanely brutal when all is said and done. The story is almost entirely devoid of war glorification. This is akin to WWI in the depiction of thankless meat grinder campaigns. Again, another nod at the Death Korps troopers who are observed from many angles, but could never provide their own voice.

Them Death Korps of Krieg fellas sure are cool as a cucumber. This book had me captivated, listened to the whole thing on a road trip.

Great introduction to 2 Faction Favorites

Even if the listener knows nothing about the Warhammer universe the two opposing forces are represented well.

Great story with lots of Krieg and Necron. Also has aspects of a love story as well. Superb book. loved it

I've always found the Death Korps super interesting, and this book exemplifies why. Their brutal and almost alien way of life makes both action and quieter scenes feel thrilling. Gunther's arc through the book was easily the biggest highlight, and any chapter from his perspective kept my interest 100%. Great ending, not exactly the happiest, but I mean it is 40k. Couldn't recommend enough to any fan of Warhammer 40,000, and honestly war novels in general as it's pretty accessible to newcomers (though you might need to look a few things up).
