Resumen del Editor

In the hellish sprawl of Imperial Terra, Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Erasmus Crowl serves as a stalwart and vigilant protector, for even the Throneworld is not immune to the predations of its enemies. In the course of his Emperor-sworn duty, Crowl becomes embroiled in a dark conspiracy, one that leads all the way to the halls of the Imperial Palace.

As he plunges deeper into the shadowy underbelly of the many palace districts, his investigation attracts the attention of hidden forces, and soon he and his acolyte Spinoza are being hunted - by heretics, xenos, servants of the Dark Powers, or perhaps even rival elements of the Inquisition itself. Soon they discover a terrible truth, one that if allowed to get out could undermine the very fabric of the Imperium itself.

Very compelling depiction of Earth in Warhammer

While the plot isn’t the most innovative—a cynical old detective(inquisitor) and an idealistic young one discover a conspiracy that goes all the way to the top—it’s exactly that type of story that allows the setting to really shine. Terra is monstrous, inhuman, and brutal, and our characters do what little they can to keep it from getting worse

Another hit by Chris

Every single publication by Wraight edges him higher and higher up my favorite Black Library authors. This was a great introduction to the inquisition on Terra and its relationship with the Palace.

I finally feel like a menial hive scrub

It was good, the day to day description of life was disturbing and the characters were charming enough.

overall quite good

the performance was excellent but the story got a little convoluted and hard to follow. I had to listen to the last 45 minutes again to understand what was happening with so many new characters re/introduced at the end.

a myster thriller in the grimdank future

I found it a bit slow to start, but the story gave us some compelling characters and lots of world building for the 40k fan or newb.

Superb

I don’t usually re-read wh40k novels but I did it with this one. I read over 50 wh40k novels and this one is at the top. It’s a great add to inquisition already rich library of novels. The story revolves around the theory that the Golden Throne is failing and the chaos that that knowlage brings. It gives a deep insight to the state of Imperium and Terra in time around 40k. Complexity of hierarchy, orders, procedures… Just woderfull.
I read the other reviews and some of them gave me a look in the toxicity of this communitiy. It seems that there is a consesus between neckbeards with no deodorant that Chris Wright is a bad author so I feel the need to adress their critisims.
1. Crozius Arcanum - peole said they stopped reading when they saw that Spinoza got the Crozius. That that is impossible, unheard off, that worlds go to war for such relic. You know what is also unheard off. One of Emperor sons turns to Chaos, Inquisitor traitor, existents of the Warp… and look what happend to that. It is the wh40k where all can happen. Giving one hammer to someone is not that big of a deal. The novel saids that that was an honor beyond imagination and it is hevely implied that she has some deep connection with Rogal bois. She even has them on speed dail for Throne’s sake. In the novel Wachers of the throne custodian Valerian reflects how the Imperial Fists are known to not be attached to objects. Legions and chapters are verry different between one and other.
2. How could a radom infiltrte the Golden Throne and why didn’t the Custodians find him? Stupid critisism. They did find him, he didn’t came that near, it wasn’t a random but an Haemonculi with the help and plan of some really powerfull people and the palace is huge.
3. The author shoul research the lore? The arogance of this critisism. Author makes the lore and knows more than you.
4. Everyone somehow forgets what an inquisitor is. Super powefull and super rich. He can do and afford almost anything and the one that lives on Terra can have evan more.
It really saddens me when I read this toxic turd stuff.
The book is great. Characters are diverse and deep. I really wish for book 3. A great addition to Eisenhorn and Ravenor

Very mystery oriented

This book has a lot of great plot twists and does a great job of keeping the listener engaged.
Some people don't like voice actor narrators using different voices for characters which happens in this audio book. I myself don't mind voice acting for characters and the narrator does a good job overall.

Great listen for the ride home from work

I started listing to audible books for the ride home in LA traffic. I have always read 40k books and decided to start out with this book as my first foray into audible books. I was very impressed with the detail that described Terra and the story itself had me sitting in my car parked outside the house saying just 1 more minute, till the wife texted me saying to get my butt inside. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book and recommend it to those who love 40k books
