Resumen del Editor

The epic, multimillion-selling science-fiction series continues! The second Dune installment explores new developments on the planet Arrakis, with its intricate social order and strange, threatening environment.

Dune Messiah picks up the story of the man known as Muad'Dib, heir to a power unimaginable, bringing to fruition an ambition of unparalleled scale: the centuries-old scheme to create a superbeing who reigns not in the heavens but among men.

But the question is: DO all paths of glory lead to the grave?

Part IV of Dune

I’ve seen some critical reviews of this second book in the Dune series. But, having read it right after re-reading Dune, I found I enjoyed it. As another commentator says, it reads like the conclusion (or “Part IV”) of Dune rather than a separate novel that stands on its own. If you read it with that in mind, and if you enjoyed Dune, you will enjoy Dune Messiah.

Some have criticised it for getting off to a slow start with lots of dialogue and set up. I agree, but the ending was satisfying and I was able to overlook the start. Hey, there are a number of good books that get off to slow starts (Lord of the Rings, for example), right? And by the end of this one, though, I had a very hard time putting it down.

If you liked Dune and want to know how things pan out for our friend Paul, I recommend Dune Messiah to you.

Outstanding

I don’t understand the negative reviews. I thought the narration was very good and the story was an extremely interesting follow up to Dune.
Highly highly recommended.

It's not DUNE

and nothing really is.
I'm glad I listened because I loved Dune and wanted more but it isn't DUNE so don't expect it to be

Great book! Decent performance

Sometimes the changes in voices was odd or distracting. Different people voicing same characters at different points in book. Overall still a good story and performance.

Jewelkeep: A treasure among books

Frank Herbert gave us gold in a sci-fi / fantasy series. Through the lens of a brutal and harsh culture, he reveals heights and depths of the human condition. In Dune Messiah he continues to strike answering chords in me, reverberating ever deeper, planting seeds of contemplation which will put down long roots...food for thought for a very long time.

Visions. Metaphors. Examples. That's this book

If this review feels negative it is because I don't feel the need to point out all the amazing things about F. Herbert or the Dune series as you probably discovered that in the first book. While I enjoyed this book and am glad I listened to it, it was only about 1/2 as fun as its predecessor. I found myself tired of the constant speaking of prescience, lost in increasingly complex philosophy, and it felt like there was a metaphor or 5 in every paragraph. No Jessica, no Gurney, barely any Stilgar, mostly just Paul and Alia, with a few new but stiff characters. Again, it is an amazing series, but I felt like I had to listen to this one to get to the hopefully more exciting books.

A must listen for book lovers

Frank Herbert's Dune is a classic and this audiobook makes it even better. Fantastic voice actors! My favorite is the guy who does the Baron's voice.

Typical Middle Child

Would you listen to Dune Messiah again? Why?

No, I wouldn't listen again. This is a typical sequal. A necessary step in the epic story, but not as exciting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dune Messiah?

Paul going blind and still being able to "see."

Any additional comments?

This was still a great story, love the foundation of this epic world and look forward to continuing the saga.
