BeautifullyWritten

This story is beautifully written. Although I kept hoping throughout the story for different circumstances, it made for interest as to what would happen.

meh, couldn't finish

This book was recommended based on my listening history and I really wanted to enjoy it - I tend to like historical fiction and I care about the region where this story is set. However, I just couldn't finish even after getting >80% through. I can't help but wonder if a different narrator would make for a better listen. I found the tone difficult to connect with and the story moved so slowly without sufficient suspense to keep me afloat.

Historical Fiction

The historical part is true because the story is set during an actual time in our country and relies on actual events to move the storyline. The fictional part comes in through the author’s tone. The way that Read feels about the events in the story is so contemporary and so obviously not based on how someone during that period of history would have felt. Nevertheless, it is a good, but heart-wrenching story, even if the ending doesn’t feel complete.

Interesting book

I liked this book but didn’t love it. Had to suspend disbelief and felt like the writing was uneven in parts

i’m not understanding all of the rave reviews.
at the beginning the new romance was so melodramatic that I kept rolling my eyes…for me, the story never improved.

Quiet story of life

Loved it. Beautiful story told simply and without unnecessary drama and spice. It was just a story of lives lived. Well done.

What a beautiful, gentle, heartbreaking, wise and hopeful book!

My favorite types of books have female characters who go on a journey of self discovery and are strong despite their weakness and wise despite mistakes. The backdrop of the story was beautiful to step into and the peaches, orchard, trees, and love of land for the main character was woven perfectly and poignantly throughout the novel.

The male narrators were really bad... Everything else was amazing! Great story that you won't be able to put down!

To go through all of that! With that ending! Loved the book, but I’m not a fan of the ending.
