Acerca de esta escucha

Number one New York Times best-selling author Michael Moore returns with his first major book in eight years - a blend of memoir, history, and politics that only he could write.

"I had an unusually large-sized head, though this was not uncommon for a baby in the Midwest. The craniums in our part of the country were designed to leave a little extra room for the brain to grow in case one day we found ourselves exposed to something we didn't understand, like a foreign language, or a salad".

Michael Moore - Oscar-winning filmmaker, best-selling author, the nation's unofficial provocateur laureate-is back, this time taking on an entirely new role, that of his own meta-Forest Gump.

Breaking the autobiographical mode, he presents 24 far-ranging, irreverent, and stranger-than-fiction vignettes from his own early life. One moment he's an 11-year-old boy lost in the Senate and found by Bobby Kennedy; and in the next, he's inside the Bitburg cemetery with a dazed and confused Ronald Reagan. Fast-forwarding to 2003, he stuns the world by uttering the words "We live in fictitious times...with a fictitious president" in place of the expected "I'd like to thank the Academy".

And none of that even comes close to the night the friendly priest at the seminary decides to show him how to perform his own exorcism.

Capturing the zeitgeist of the past 50 years, yet deeply personal and unflinchingly honest, Here Comes Trouble takes listeners on an unforgettable, take-no-prisoners ride through the life and times of Michael Moore. No one will come away from this book without a sense of surprise about the Michael Moore most of us didn't know. Alternately funny, eye-opening, and moving, it's a book he has been writing-and living-his entire life.

Micheal Moore is a Troubadour

If you could sum up Here Comes Trouble in three words, what would they be?

Honest, Unflinching, Determined

What did you like best about this story?

His ability to never give up.

Have you listened to any of Michael Moore’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Anything is Possible

Any additional comments?

A "wandering minstrel" singing out loud his beliefs and mission throughout his life, not taking no for an answer and questioning everything. The stories are sometimes sad, sometimes unjust, sometimes uplifting but always leave you with a sense of "The World needs more Michael Moores"

HILARIOUS

First off, Michael Moore is a GREAT narrator. It feels like a memoir should, as if he's talking conversationally with you. I'm from Moore's hometown of Davison, Michigan so my interest in this book was due to a number of reasons. The book is full of great stories and it amazes me how little Davison has changed in the decades since Moore was a child. The only thing that I found somewhat confusing was that the book is not organized in chronological order, so a story of Moore as an adult may be followed by one of his years in Catholic school. But it's easy to figure out what's going on. I laughed and I cried. And I bought the actual book for my dad for Christmas :)

Also, if you don't like Michael Moore or don't agree with his views then don't buy this book. Fair warning.

Loved It

Michael Moore is a great narrator and he tells a compelling story. I had no idea how endangered he was after his Oscar speech. He has had so many interesting events in his life it is remarkable. His ability to speak with compassion, empathy and integrity is enthralling. Very well done I won't hesitate to buy his next book.

Very Entertaining!!

I was skeptical that I would like an autobiographical book, even though I'm a huge Michael Moore fan. However, the stories are as captivating as any audio book I've ever listened to. Moore is an awesome author-reader right up there with Frank McCort. He adds much production value to the reading both with his adjustments to the text for the audio format and awesome sound effects (especially the bomb blasts).

I highly recommend this audio book on its own merits. But if you are looking for American history from the perspective of a person from the middle in the 60's and 70's, this book is a must-listen.

As good as any of his movies!

When a person is writing his own memoirs, he can choose to remember anything he wishes and edit the themes to fit a certain narrative. Bearing this in mind, I would say that if even half the stuff in this book is true, Michael Moore was born to be a thorn in the side of the right wing, and to have chosen any other career would have been to ignore his true calling in life. And you can find confirmation for at least half this stuff if you start looking for it.

For one thing, I remember being puzzled a few years back when my father suddenly announced, "Michael Moore hates America." As my dad hadn't been to the movies in years, I was surprised he even knew who Michael Moore was, and if you have ever seen one of MM's movies, you know that he might hate many things, but America is not among them. This mystery was cleared up in the opening essay of this book, confirming for me at least that part of the story was true. A couple of the more amazing stories have photographic evidence in the accompanying PDF. (It's a nice touch that Audible listeners get the photos that go with this book, unlike so many others on Audible).

Lest this sound like the book is all self-aggrandizement, I would like to say that is not so. Michael Moore does not shy away from telling us embarrassing or shameful things about himself, but I wouldn't like to give any spoilers here. His voice is honest, funny, and filled with the emotion that make his movies such masterpieces of cinematic art. He is a good movie maker because he is a good storyteller, and I can only hope that there are more of these books to come!

No wonder Michael thought he'd write a book.

What did you love best about Here Comes Trouble?

Didn't realize Michael's history, starting with the trouble he stirred up when he was 17 and received his first invitation to address congress. Lots of amazing and surprising stories in here!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Here Comes Trouble?

When Michael pestered Roger Ebert to attend his film premiere. Also, the phone call from John Lennon.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen when I run or when I commute. Time flew!

Any additional comments?

Moore showed good enthusiasm in his reading. He took a very conversational tone.

So that's how he got that way

A collection of humorous stories that provide more than a glimpse into how this filmmaker came to be. There are a lot of short "chapters" in this autobiography. Now that I have listened to them all, I wish I had rationed them out. Just like in his films, Moore's love for country and other people, albeit often exhibited in tactless fashion, shine through. Plus it is funny, I laughed out loud three times, despite well-honed skills of stifling such while sitting in the quiet car on a commuter train.

Couldn't stop listening

I am a fan of Michael Moore but I have never seen one of his movies or read one of his books. Once I got started listening there was little stopping.

My favorite part was when he had to hire Navy Seals as body guards. When someone hires Seals you know they are in deep trouble and could be killed. Old ex-cop security was not an option.

There was not a dull moment in the book. This was unusual for me but I went back and listened to many chapters again.
